Lenovo Launches Ultrabook Series at IFA 2013: ThinkPad T, X And S

|

PC manufacturers are constantly in a race to produce faster, slimmer and lighter laptops. Lenovo looks like it might have leaped ahead most of its competition with the launch of its ThinkPad T, X, and S line of Ultrabooks at IFA 2013.

All three netbooks feature 20 percent thinner form factor and up to a 20 percent smaller bezel. Thanks to the new Think Pad Power Bridge technology, users can swap batteries without turning off the system. The new feature is available with the ThinkPad 68(23.5Wh), 68+ (72Wh), and 48Wh batteries.

Among the three, we start of with the T series. This includes the ThinkPad T440S and T440, which happen to be the company's mainstream offerings. They use 14-inch screen comes with an option for touch-screen, while the system uses Haswell Core i7 processors, support for up to 12GB DDR3L, a choice between SSDs (512GB) or HDDs (1TB) and up to 17 hours of battery life. However, while the T440s has a 1080p screen, while the T440 uses only an inferior resolution of 1600x900. So yes, the T440s with the HD screen will be the more expensive of the two.

Moving onto the smaller ThinkPad X240, it has a 12.5 inch screen that churns out a 1366x768 resolution display. There's an option for 1080p here as well. For processors, you can go up to i7 Haswell, which will be supported by an Intel HD 4400 integrated GPU and upto 8GB of RAM. Again, you can choose between HDD and SSD variants, with the unit delivering up to 10 hours of battery life on a single charge.

And the finally, we have the S series, which happens to be designed for SMBs or small business users. Thee's a 14-inch ThinkPad S440 and then a bigger 15-inch S540. Both units will have options upto Core i7 Haswell processors along with Intel HD 4400 GPU. Want more graphical power? Then you can update the GPU to AMD HD 8670M. Moving on to RAM, the S540 comes with two RAM slots supporting up to 16GB of DDR3 RAM while the S440 has just a single slot supporting upto 8GB.

The S540 uses a 1920x1080 screen while the S440 will have a 1600x900 screen. For storage, again you have both SSD and HDD options. The S540 will come in SSD (512GB) or a HDD (1TB) variant, while the SSD features SSD(256GB) and HDD (500GB).

The S440 will be the only device available in September 2013, while all the other units will ship from October.
