LG To Showcase Watch Urbane LTE at MWC 2015

By Anuj

In a rather surprise move, LG today announced the Watch Urbane LTE, its first 4G LTE-enabled smartwatch, based on WebOS. The intelligent watch doesn't run Google's ambitious Android Wear platform - it runs on a new native wearable platform from LG. '

It's unclear how different the LG Watch Urbane 4G LTE is different from the model that's supported by Android Wear platform in terms of user interface (UI).

The Watch Urbane 4G LTE will, of course, work with Android phones, but the LTE version has cellular connectivity of its own. Like the Samsung Galaxy Gear S, the LG G Watch Urbane LTE can make calls independently.

In terms of spec sheet, the stainless steel watch has the same 1.3-inch P-OLED screen as the Watch Urbane, but it's said have a studier build to accommodate a Wi-Fi radio, a GPS radio, an NFC module for mobile payments.

Both the Urbane LTE and Urbane have the same 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processer and 4GB of ROM. The WebOS-powered watch also has a 700 mAh battery, which is 1.7 times bigger than the G Watch R, notes The Verge.

So far, LG has only announced the Urbane LTE for the Korean market, but the company will probably showcase the device at Mobile World Congress next month.
