With the advent of the new year, there were not many launches in the tech world this week. One of the main reasons for this is that the Consumer Electronics Show 2013 is about to debut in a couple of days. Hence, the global manufacturers will be showcasing their products only then.

 

However, the local vendors in India have been quite active as usual. Manufacturers including Spice, Lava, Byond and others have been launching their products into the country at budget price points.

Swipe Telecom launched a dual SIM phablet in December and released it officially into the market a couple of days back. The device dubbed as Fablet F1 sports a 5 inch WVGA capacitive multi-touch display, 1GHz MediaTek MTK 6575 processor, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS, 5MP rear camera, 0.3MP front camera, 4GB internal storage, micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB expandable memory, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 2,500 mAh battery.

Earlier, the phablet was listed for pre-order at a price of Rs 8,990 and now it has been released officially into the market at a price of Rs 9,490.

S Mobility popularly known as Spice Mobiles, already has penetrated in the market with a plethora of Android smartphones and feature phones at reasonable price tags has come up with yet another smartphone called Stellar Virtuoso.

Stellar Virtuoso running on Android 4.0 ICS operating system is a dual SIM smartphone with a 4.5 inch qHD IPS capacitive touchscreen display, 1GHz dual core processor, 8MP rear camera, 1GB RAM, micro SD card slot supporting expandable storage support, VGA front camera for video calling, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a 1,700 mAh battery.

Priced at Rs 10,499, the handset falls into the budget smartphone segment that is flooded with several offerings.

Lava has quietly launched an all new version of its eTab Z7H dubbed as eTab Z7H+ with a 7 inch display and at a reasonable price of Rs 5,499.

Being an upgraded version of eTab Z7H, the new offering is quite disappointing as it comes with no enhancements as compared to its predecessor, but with a slower processor.

eTab Z7H+ comes with a 7 inch LCD multi-touch capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, 1GHz Cortex A8 processor, Android 4.0 ICS operating system, 4GB internal storage, 512MB RAM, micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB additional storage, 0.3MP front camera, Wi-Fi, 3G via dongle, micro USB 2.0 and a 2,800 mAh battery.

Lava has priced eTab Z7H+ at Rs 5,499 making it reasonable in the 7 inch budget tablet segment that is already occupied with several offerings from other Indian manufacturers.

Videocon has forayed into the tablet market by launching its first tablet with a 10 inch display and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system. The tablet dubbed as VT-10 has now been released into the Indian market at a price of Rs 10,999.

Videocon VT-10 flaunts a 10.1 inch IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, 1.5GHz dual core processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB onboard storage, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB additional storage, 2MP front and rear cameras, HDMI, micro USB, 3G via dongle, Wi-Fi and a 6,800 mAh battery.

Besides launching Stellar Virtuoso, Spice also launched a 10 inch tablet with a 10.1 inch capacitive display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, 1.5GHz dual core processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB onboard storage, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, micro SD card slot supporting up to 32GB additional storage, 3MP rear camera, VGA front camera, HDMI, micro USB, 3G via dongle, Wi-Fi and a 7,600 mAh battery.

Spice Stellar Pad Mi-1010 is priced at Rs 12,999 and the company is offering a leather cover worth Rs 2,000 and a USB OTG cable for free on every purchase of the tablet.

Byond Mi-book Mi7

With the popularity of voice calling tablets, Pune based manufacturer Byond has also come up with Mi-Book Mi7 priced at Rs 11,499.

As far as the specifications of the Byond Mi-Book Mi7 is concerned, the 7 inch capacitive display tablet will run on Google's Android 4.0 ICS OS along with the power of 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, supported by 512MB RAM. Furthermore, the tablet will house 2 MP rear and VGA front camera, 4GB internal storage, which is expandable up to 32GB with micro-SD card slot, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, G-Sensor along with solid 3,200 mAh Li-ion battery.
