Motorola was the first prominent tech vendor to come with a "proper wearable" in the form of the Moto 360. Launched last year, the watch has garnered positive to average reviews from notable tech journalists.

The specialist website is relaying leaks on the Google Play Developers Console and on social network Weibo on an upcoming Android Wear device codenamed 'Smelt'.

A successor to that smartwatch might already be in the works, as "accidentally" leaked last month. Now a new leak has come up claiming that the next Moto 360 will have a higher resolution screen.

Said to have a screen with 360×360 pixels compared to the Moto 360's 320×290 pixels, the mystery smartwatch will reportedly come with WiFi as well as Bluetooth, and it will be available with a wider selection of materials for both the case and the strap.

This next-generation Moto 360 is expected to launch before the end of 2015. The leak last month wasn't really that exciting, just an accidental revelation of Lenovo's and Motorola's new vision for the smartwatch.

Motorola probably needs to get its game on in the smartwatch market if it wants to take the lead again.
