Apple Launches New AirTag in India with Longer Range and Enhanced Audio: Check Price & Features

Apple has introduced the second generation AirTag, bringing longer-range tracking, louder alerts and new sharing tools. The compact accessory keeps the familiar design but gains upgraded internal hardware and software. These updates aim to make locating lost bags, keys and other belongings easier for users, including frequent travellers in India.

The key hardware change is Apple’s second-generation Ultra Wideband chip inside the new AirTag. This is the same UWB technology used in the iPhone 17 lineup and the latest Apple Watch models. Precision Finding can now guide users from up to 50% farther away than the first version, improving accuracy over greater distances.

Hardware Upgrades and Precision Finding

The updated AirTag also features an improved Bluetooth chip that extends the detection range on the Find My network. This allows nearby Apple devices to spot a tagged item from a wider area. The internal speaker is rated 50% louder, which helps when an item is hidden under furniture or in busy, noisy spaces like airports and stations.

For the first time, Precision Finding works directly on the Apple Watch Series 9 or later models. Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later also supports this direction guidance feature. Users can now follow on-wrist prompts to walk towards a misplaced item, without needing to pull out an iPhone, which may help during travel or daily commutes.

2nd Gen Apple AirTag Features

A major software upgrade is the Share Item Location option for the new AirTag. This lets owners create a temporary link and share an item’s live location with trusted contacts. Apple has worked with over 50 airlines to fit this system into baggage recovery processes, supporting staff when tracing delayed or lost luggage.

According to data from SITA, airlines using this integrated technology have seen a 26% drop in baggage delays. The same data shows a 90% reduction in unrecoverable luggage. Shared links are designed to close automatically after seven days. They also end earlier if the tagged item is marked as recovered, limiting unnecessary access.

New Apple AirTag Pricing & Availability

Apple continues to highlight privacy on the new AirTag through end-to-end encryption of all location data. Unwanted Tracking Alerts warn people on different platforms if an unknown AirTag appears to be moving with them. Bluetooth identifiers rotate often, and the hardware itself holds no stored location history, reducing the amount of exposed information.

The latest Apple AirTag is priced at Rs. 3790 for a single unit in India. A pack of four costs Rs. 12900. The AirTag FineWoven Key Ring accessory in fox orange, midnight purple, navy, moss and black is priced at Rs. 3900. Apple is also offering a free engraving for each AirTag.
