Report: Apple Eyes Budget-Friendly Vision Pro for 2025, Delays High-End Vision Pro 2 to 2026
Apple is making strides in its augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) offerings, prioritizing the development of a more affordable version of its Vision Pro headset. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the company aims to release this budget-friendly model, codenamed N107, by the end of 2025. Meanwhile, plans for a next-generation Vision Pro 2 have been pushed back to late 2026.
Affordable Vision Pro in the Works
Apple is shifting its strategy to focus on a cost-effective version of its Vision Pro headset. This model, referred to internally as N107, is slated for release by the end of 2025. Unlike the high-end Vision Pro, the N107 will feature a narrower field of view and might need to be tethered to a Mac or iPhone for processing power. This tethered design could help Apple reduce the headset’s cost by utilizing the computational capabilities of other devices.

The decision to prioritize a more affordable headset aligns with Apple's broader goal of making AR/VR technology accessible to a wider audience. By offering a budget-friendly option, Apple aims to attract consumers who might find the premium Vision Pro out of reach financially.
Vision Pro 2 Development Continues
Despite the focus on a cheaper model, Apple is also advancing the development of the Vision Pro 2, internally known as N109. This next-generation headset is expected to come with significant improvements, including a faster processor and better external cameras. Efforts are also underway to make the device lighter and more comfortable for users.
Originally planned for a 2025 release, the Vision Pro 2 is now anticipated to launch no earlier than late 2026.
Exploration of AR-Only Glasses
Apple is not stopping with headsets. The company is renewing its efforts to develop AR-only glasses that are lightweight and suitable for everyday wear. These glasses are intended to offer augmented reality experiences without the need for VR capabilities, making them practical for extended use.
While there has been some speculation about a possible 2027 release, insiders suggest that these AR glasses might not be ready for market for several more years. Apple’s cautious approach ensures that when the glasses do launch, they will provide a seamless AR experience.
