Step-Climbing Robot Vacuums with Arms Take Center Stage at CES 2025
CES 2025 has witnessed fierce competition between robot vacuum makers Dreame and Roborock. Both companies showcased their latest innovations, adding limbs to their robotic vacuums. Dreame introduced the X50 Ultra, a robovac capable of navigating steps and room transitions up to 6cm high using its legs. Meanwhile, Roborock unveiled its flagship model, the Saros Z70, equipped with an arm designed to pick up items like socks.
Not wanting to be left behind, Dreame revealed an upcoming model at CES 2025 that combines step-climbing legs with a robotic arm. This new model features a more robust arm than Roborock's version. Dreame claims it can lift items weighing up to 500 grams, compared to Roborock's 300 grams capacity. The arm can handle sneakers as large as men's size 42 (US size 9) and transport them to designated areas in your home.

Innovative Features of Dreame's Robot Vacuum
Dreame's robot vacuum also includes a separate toolbox with various brushes. These brushes can attach to the arm, allowing it to reach into corners and tight spaces where the bot itself cannot go. This feature enables the robot to sweep out dirt and dust effectively. Additionally, Dreame has introduced a new base station that dispenses multiple mopping pads for different cleaning tasks around the home.
Despite these impressive features, the robot was unable to demonstrate picking up a sneaker or any item due to unreliable Wi-Fi on the CES show floor. Instead, attendees observed the arm moving in various directions while the robot lifted itself on its small legs. The demonstration resembled a tiny horse in motion.
Roborock's Arm Capabilities
Roborock's Saros Z70 features an arm capable of picking up items weighing up to 300 grams. While this is less than Dreame's offering, it still provides significant utility for users looking to automate household chores involving small objects.
Dreame's Longdong Chen mentioned that their step-climbing, tool-using robot vacuum should be available later this year. Although pricing details remain undisclosed, it's anticipated that this advanced technology will come at a premium cost. The introduction of these innovative robotic vacuums highlights the ongoing advancements in home automation technology.
