Google reportedly working on a Google Home variant with touchscreen
This variant of the Google Home will probably let users watch YouTube videos, get direction from Google Maps, browse the internet, and more.
Google recently launched the Google Home Mini and Google Home Max along with its Pixel 2 smartphones. However, it seems like the company plans to add another new member to its smart speakers family.
As reported by Android Police, Google is currently working on a smart speaker that will feature a screen. This variant of the Google Home will probably let users watch YouTube videos, get direction from Google Maps, browse the internet, and more. The device is said to be codenamed as "Quartz", and was discovered during a teardown of the latest Google app (v.7.14.15).
The findings also included words like YouTube, video, and browser. Although the references do not suggest much, the assumptions made are likely to come true.
Google's main rival Amazon already has the Echo Show smart speaker which features a 7-inch screen. Moreover, Amazon will launch another smart speaker with a round 2.5-inch display on 19 December. The upcoming speaker is called Echo Spot.
So Google is not doing anything innovative if it eventually launches a smart speaker with a display. Talking about the recently launched Google Home Mini, it is a perfect device for those who want to try out the speaker without spending a lot of money. It can set reminders, control other smart devices, etc.
Compatible with both Android and iOS, the speaker 40mm driver for 360-degree sound and supports Bluetooth and dual-band Wi-Fi.
Whereas the Google Home Max is a woofer without an assistant. The major functionality of this device is music playing. It has two 4.5-inch woofers for deep bass and two 0.7-inch custom tweeters for the highs. The Smart Sound feature is the highlight of its device. It lets you adjust the way you listen to music simply by adapting to the environment.
