Nothing Is Bringing ChatGPT to Older Ear Models and CMF Products Next Week
Nothing is giving its older earbud users a voice assistant upgrade. The company announced today that it's integrating ChatGPT, an AI-powered chatbot, into its earlier audio products, including its CMF earbuds. This follows the introduction of ChatGPT in the recently launched Nothing Ear and Ear (a) earbuds.
How Will This Work for Older Earbuds? Previously, ChatGPT was only available on the latest Nothing earbud models. Now, users with older devices like the Ear (1), Ear (stick), and Ear (2) can get in on the action. Additionally, the update includes CMF-branded audio products like the CMF Neckband Pro and CMF Buds Pro.

The update will be available through the Nothing X app starting May 21st. Once downloaded, users can activate ChatGPT voice control through the app. However, there's a catch: ChatGPT currently only works with Nothing and CMF audio devices when paired with Nothing phones.
For users with Nothing Ear and Ear (a) earbuds, the experience is a little more seamless. These models allow for direct voice commands to ChatGPT through a customizable "pinch and hold" gesture on the earbuds themselves. This eliminates the need to constantly access the phone for basic tasks.
Why This Matters The integration of ChatGPT represents a growing trend in the tech industry: embedding AI assistants into everyday devices. By offering voice control through earbuds, Nothing is potentially making everyday tasks like checking the weather or controlling music playback more convenient and hands-free.
Limitations to Consider While the expansion of ChatGPT is a welcome addition for Nothing audio product users, it's important to remember that the feature is currently limited to the Nothing ecosystem. This means you'll need a Nothing phone to unlock the full voice control functionality.
Another consideration is the ongoing development of ChatGPT itself. As an AI tool, it's constantly learning and evolving. The capabilities and functionalities available through Nothing earbuds may expand over time.
The Road Ahead Whether the integration of an AI assistant translates to a significant advantage over competitors in the earbud market remains to be seen, but it certainly adds another layer of functionality for Nothing users.
