Samsung XR Headset Teased at Galaxy Unpacked 2025: Shares Design Similarities with the Apple Vision Pro

Samsung recently provided another glimpse of its upcoming extended reality (XR) headset, known as 'Project Moohan', at the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event in San Jose, California. The silhouette of the XR headset displayed bore a resemblance to the Apple Vision Pro. Although Samsung did not provide detailed information, it confirmed that the headset will operate on the Android XR operating system, developed in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm.

The company also hinted at developing smart glasses alongside the XR headset. At the event, Samsung highlighted that its XR headset will feature multimodal artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. This technology aims to transform how users interact with both physical and digital environments. Visuals demonstrated potential control methods for the XR headset.

Innovative Interaction Methods

Samsung's wearable might include eye-tracking features similar to those found in the Apple Vision Pro. This technology uses LEDs and infrared cameras to project invisible light patterns onto each eye, allowing users to select elements by simply looking at them. Additionally, hand gestures and speech may also be used to control the XR headset.

The teaser for Samsung's XR headset was brief but hinted at possible development of smart glasses. The company emphasised how multimodal AI could revolutionise interaction with new devices like XR headsets. Visuals showed both the XR headset and a pair of smart glasses together.

Advanced Features and Capabilities

First announced in December 2024, Samsung's 'Project Moohan' XR headset is expected to feature multimodal input, advanced displays, and passthrough capabilities. It will support Google's Gemini AI assistant and have apps optimised for a large virtual display.

As the first device powered by Android XR OS, it may include features like Circle to Search with gesture support, web browsing via Google Chrome, immersive views using Google Maps, and live translation of text within the user's view.

The Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event showcased Samsung's commitment to innovation in wearable technology. By integrating cutting-edge AI capabilities into its devices, Samsung aims to enhance user interaction with both physical and digital worlds seamlessly.
