No More Dead Earbuds, Sennheiser Momentum 5 Series Brings Replaceable Batteries to India

Sennheiser has launched the MOMENTUM 5 Wireless headphones and the MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 earbuds in India, priced at Rs 39,990 and Rs 29,990 respectively. Both open for pre-order today, September 24, with sales starting October 1. And true to the brand, the headline story here is the sound.

Audiophile sound is still the main event

The over-ear MOMENTUM 5 Wireless is built around 42mm drivers inspired by Sennheiser's famed HD 600 series, the reference headphones a lot of audiophiles grew up worshipping. You get Hi-Res Audio certification, Snapdragon Sound with aptX Lossless, and Dolby Atmos with head tracking, so the sound stays anchored as you move. The drivers are made at Sennheiser's own facility in Tullamore, Ireland, not outsourced, which is the kind of detail that matters to people who care about this stuff.

The MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 earbuds carry the same sound-first DNA into a tiny shell. They use Sennheiser's 7mm TrueResponse transducer and push high-res audio up to 24-bit/96kHz, with Bluetooth 6.0 and aptX Lossless doing the heavy lifting on the wireless side. Dolby Atmos with head tracking is here too, so your movies and shows get that theatre-like spatial effect.

ANC and calls get smarter

The headphones run an 8-microphone hybrid ANC system that Sennheiser says cuts midrange chatter, think office noise and voices, up to three times better than the MOMENTUM 4. The earbuds get adaptive hybrid ANC with an automatic anti-wind mode and AI-powered speech extraction, which should make calls on a busy street a lot less painful. There is also a new Smart Control Plus app with an 8-band EQ if you like fiddling with your sound.

The feature that actually stands out

Here is where these break from the pack. Both models ship with user-replaceable batteries. The headphones use a 700 mAh cell you can swap in minutes with a small Phillips-head screwdriver, and the ear pads are replaceable too. More surprising, the earbuds let you replace the batteries in both the buds and the charging case, which is genuinely rare in true wireless and a real answer to the e-waste problem.

On stamina, the headphones last up to 57 hours with ANC on, while the earbuds do up to 12 hours per charge and 40 hours with the case. The buds are also IP54-rated for dust and splash resistance.

Price, offers and the catch

Pre-order buyers get a complimentary BTD 600 Bluetooth dongle worth Rs 5,990. The one thing Sennheiser has not told us is what a replacement battery will actually cost in India, or how easily you will be able to buy one two years down the line. That number decides whether the swappable battery is a real feature or just a nice line on the box. Worth asking before you commit.
