Sony Alpha 7R VI Launched in India at Rs. 4,70,990 With 66.8MP Sensor and 8K Video
Sony India has launched the Alpha 7R VI, the latest addition to its Alpha 7R mirrorless camera lineup. Priced at Rs. 4,70,990, the camera goes on sale from July 3 across Sony Center stores, ShopatSC.com, and Amazon.
Every purchase comes with a complimentary NP-SA100 battery worth Rs. 10,490, valid for a limited period.

Sensor and Image Processing
The Alpha 7R VI is built around a 66.8 megapixel back-illuminated fully stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor, paired with Sony's new BIONZ XR2 image processing engine. Sony claims up to 16 stops of dynamic range and reduced noise in the mid-sensitivity range.
The camera also features a new Auto White Balance system powered by a visible light and infrared sensor, along with deep-learning illumination estimation for more consistent colour in indoor or shaded environments.
Speed and Autofocus
The BIONZ XR2 engine features an integrated AI processing unit and a sensor readout Sony says is approximately 5.6 times faster than the Alpha 7R V. This enables blackout-free continuous shooting at up to approximately 30fps with AF and AE tracking, delivering up to 60 AF/AE calculations per second. The camera uses Real-time Recognition AF+, which adds skeletal-based human pose estimation for tracking fast-moving subjects like athletes.
Stabilisation
The Alpha 7R VI has a 5-axis optical image stabilisation system rated at up to 8.5 stops at the centre and 7.0 stops at the periphery, based on CIPA 2024 standards.
Video
On the video side, the camera supports 8K 30p recording with 8.2K oversampling, full-frame 4K 60p and 4K 120p without crop, and a new Dual Gain Shooting mode, a first in the Alpha series, which Sony says optimises sensor performance to reduce noise and retain shadow detail.
The redesigned in-camera stabilisation doubles the roll-direction compensation range compared to the previous model, and Dynamic Active Mode is available for handheld shooting. Sony also claims effective heat management allows uninterrupted 8K recording for up to 120 minutes at 25 degrees Celsius.
When paired with the new XLR-A4 adaptor, the camera supports 32-bit float audio internal recording at up to 96kHz 4-channel, which Sony says removes the need for precise gain adjustment on location.
Build and Design
The body uses a magnesium alloy construction with dust and moisture resistance, dual USB Type-C ports for simultaneous charging and data transfer, and illuminated rear buttons for low-light use. The viewfinder is a 9.44 million dot OLED panel with a DCI-P3 equivalent colour gamut and 10-bit HDR, with maximum brightness Sony claims is approximately three times higher than conventional models. A 4-axis multi-angle LCD monitor and a new mode-dial Memory Recall function, which links shooting setups to customisable buttons, are also included.
The Alpha 7R VI also supports Sony's Camera Authenticity Solution, including the C2PA standard, which allows verification that still images and videos were captured with a camera rather than generated by AI.
New Battery
The camera ships with a new NP-SA100 battery rated at 2670mAh, supporting up to 710 shots via the LCD monitor or 600 via the viewfinder under CIPA standards. Sony says this is approximately 1.3 times the capacity of the NP-FZ100 battery used in previous models.
