Vivo has introduced its inaugural Mixed Reality (MR) headset, the Vivo Vision Discovery Edition. This device features dual 8K displays and weighs 398 grams. It is designed to compete with the Apple Vision Pro. The Vision Explorer Edition marks Vivo's entry into the MR headset market.

The Vivo Vision Discovery Edition boasts dual 8K micro-LED displays, offering a resolution of 3840 x 3552 pixels per eye. According to Vivo, it covers 94% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. Users can experience a 180-degree panoramic view and a repositionable 120-foot virtual screen at the front. Gesture control and eye-tracking with 1.5-degree precision enhance user interaction.

Specifications and Features

Weighing significantly less than its competitors, the headset is constructed using magnesium alloy components, contributing to its lightweight design of just 398 grams. The device measures 83mm in height and 40mm in thickness. Powering this advanced gadget is the Snapdragon XR2 Plus Gen 2 chipset, which Vivo claims offers a performance boost of up to 2.5 times compared to previous models.

The headset operates on Vivo's OriginOS Vision platform and is primarily marketed as an entertainment device. It includes features tailored for streaming sports events and accessing real-time match data. Additionally, partnerships with Red Bull Austria and Sony Pictures Television aim to enrich content offerings.

Content Partnerships and Exclusive Titles

Vivo has collaborated with various partners to enhance content availability for users. Two exclusive MR titles, Table Drum Master and Little Vs Journey, are available for users seeking interactive experiences. Furthermore, owners of the Vivo X200 smartphone can effortlessly share images and videos with the headset.

The pricing strategy for the Vision Discovery Edition differs from traditional sales approaches. Instead of immediate retail availability, customers can register for trials starting August 22 at designated stations in major Chinese cities like Beijing and Shanghai. Preorders have already commenced.

Pricing Insights

Although official pricing details remain undisclosed, Gizmochina reports suggest that Vivo executives have hinted at a potential price point around 10,000 yuan (approximately $1,395 or Rs 1,21,599). This would position it significantly lower than Apple's Vision Pro priced at $3,499 (roughly Rs 3,05,307), while still being more expensive than Meta Quest 3's $499 (about Rs 43,538).

This strategic pricing could make the Vivo Vision Discovery Edition an attractive option for consumers seeking advanced MR technology without the hefty price tag associated with some competitors.
