Xiaomi e-Book Reader To Be Announced On November 20: Will It Rival Amazon Kindle?

|

Of late, Xiaomi has been coming up with several new gadgets in its smart ecosystem. The latest ones that we saw were the Xiaomi Fish Tank and Smart Garbage Bin. Now, the company is speculated to be working on an e-book reader that could be launched on November 20 in its home market China.

Xiaomi e-Book Reader To Be Announced On November 20

Xiaomi has teased that it will launch a new product next week and the teaser shows that it will be an e-book reader. It is said that the product could be launched as a crowd-funding project. For the uninitiated, most Xiaomi products will be launched as crowd-funding projects and will enter mass production only after successfully reaching the target.

Xiaomi e-Book Reader Coming Soon

A report by GizmoChina citing the official Mijia Weibo post notes that the e-book to be launched by Xiaomi next week could feature thick bezels around the screen. The sketch shows that it might have a button at the top and none at the sides.

This makes us believe that the button at the top could be a power button to turn on the screen and might save the battery power if the screen is turned off. The lack of other buttons on the alleged device makes us come to the conclusion that there could be on-screen controls to handle the other aspects.

Notably, this is not the first e-book reader that Xiaomi has launched. The first e-book reader dubbed Xiaomi iReader was launched back in May this year. Later, the Xiaomi Moaan W7 June was announced.

What We Think

Given that Xiaomi is coming up with e-book readers, it is likely that the company is trying to compete against the likes of e-book reader makers such as Amazon, Kobo, and Barnes and Noble. While the pricing of the upcoming Xiaomi e-book reader is yet to be revealed, we can expect it to be quite affordable as the other crowd-funded projects from the company.
