At CES 2013, Qualcomm unveiled its first products for the year - Snapdragon 600 and Snapdragon 800. These next generation processors are claimed to offer a new range of improvements and features as compared to its previous generation of processors.
Detailing on Snapdragon 600, the processor features a quad-core Krait 300 CPU clocking at 1.9GHz and Adreno 320 GPU, which is claimed to offer three times the performance of the A225. The new GPU supports several computing APIs and LPDDR3 (Low Power Double Data Rate 3) memory.
In the premium segment, Snapdragon 800 processor will pack in a quad-core Krait 400 CPU clocked at 2.3GHz and Adreno 330 GPU. The company claims that this will bump up the Snapdragon 800's performance twice as compared to the Adreno 320 GPU in Snapdragon 600 processor. Some of its other features include support for 4G LTE and Wi-Fi. The new chip also supports capture and playback of UltraHD videos (with 4K resolution).
"With the overwhelming success of our previous Qualcomm Snapdragon platforms, our mobile processors have emerged as the platform of choice for high-end mobile devices," said Steve Mollenkopf, president and chief operating officer of Qualcomm. "With more than 50 design wins already secured with the first products of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 and 800 processors, we are advancing our vision and setting the standard for excellence in mobile computing."

With the launch of the next generation processors, Qualcomm is claimed to boast the performance of the devices that will be launched incorporating them. But, when it comes to the question of how the chips can do so, below are the top 5 new features of these chips.
New Hexagon DSP V5
The new Hexagon DSP V5 offers floating point support, expanded multimedia instructions and dynamic multi-threading for improved low power performance.
New IZat Technology
New IZat location technology combines multiple tracking systems in a single high performance and accurate navigation platform.
Snapdragon 800 offers latest multimedia experiences including the ability to capture, playback and display in ultra HD videos (four times as 1080p). Moreover, the processor comes Dolby Digital Plus technology for enhanced audio experience and supports high display resolutions up to 2560 x 2048 pixels.
Complete connectivity support
The new processors offer seamless connectivity support with integrated Bluetooth, FM, USB 3.0, LTE and Wi-Fi 802.11 ac.
Backed by these specs, Snapdragon 600 processor is being claimed to give a 40% performance improvement as compared to Snapdragon S4 Pro. At the same time, Snapdragon 800 comes with 75% performance boost as compared to Snapdragon S4 Pro.
