Samsung Gear S Smartwatch With Voice Calling Feature Launched in India at Rs 28,900

Along with the much expected Galaxy Note 4 smartphone, Samsung has also launched its first independent voice call supported smartwatch the Gear S in India. The Samsung Gear S comes in Blue Black and White color variants and is priced at Rs. 28,900.

Those who are thinking that its Android Wear time piece, you guys are wrong as this one uses a home-brewed Tizen OS. Samsung in fact, first unveiled the device back in August and also showcased the same in September at the pre-IFA 2014 trade fair.

One of the most peculiar feature of the new smartwatch is that this is the first smartwatch to come with a built-in SIM card slot. It means that it can make and receive calls, without connecting to a parent device. Moreover, the watch also supports 3G option.

Samsung Gear S: Key Specifications

The Samsung Gear S comes with a 2 inch Super AMOLED display offering a resolution of 360 x 480 pixels. It is powered by a 1 GHz Dual-Core processor coupled with 512MB of RAM and runs on Tizen based wearable platform rather than Android Wear, which is getting popular in the wearable market off late.

The device houses 4GB of internal memory and has comes with a support for 2G and 3G Call via SIM card and even a Bluetooth Call. Other connectivity options include WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 and A-GPS/Glonass.

Talking about the feature, Samsung also says that the watch comes with S Voice functionality for dictating and voice commands, apart from the onscreen keyboard. Additionally, Samsung has included its own S Health app, apart from Nike+ Running, to help users track their health statistics. Also onboard is turn-by-turn pedestrian navigation provided via Here Maps, a 24-hour news service from the Financial Times, and more. Even Heart Rate sensor has been used in the Gear S.

Regular sensors like Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Compass, Ambient Light, UV, Barometer can also be found in the Gear S. It is a well built smartwatch with IP67 Certification for dust and water resistant form and it is powered by a 300mAh Li-ion battery, which according to the company offers up to 2 days of battery life.
