NeoGeo launches portable gaming device

Almost all the gaming consoles in the market are pretty much portable. You can see for yourself that gaming consoles like Playstation and Xbox can fit into a laptop bag. So unless you believe that laptops aren’t simply portable even in a laptop bag, you will agree with the statement above. But, it is quite known that there are a number of cool consoles out there which really fit the definition of portability, for example the Sony Playstation Portable (PSP).

These super portable mini gaming consoles have a huge fan base, especially the PSP. So it is quite obvious that these portable gaming devices, popularly referred to as Hand-held gaming consoles, can still survive in the console market. Apparently, SNK Playmore agrees with this which is clear from their decision to introduce a new hand-held gaming console to the market. This SNK portable console isn’t the renewed version of the SNK NeoGeo Pocket, but this is one good looking NeoGeo portable gaming device.

However, the new NeoGeo portable gaming console is going to face a lot of competition especially from powerful gaming exclusive smartphones. With such smartphones around, gaming buffs probably wouldn’t go for a portable gaming device unless it is offered by Sony or Nintendo. Named as the NeoGeo Portable, the device has a thumb stick and the control buttons. NeoGeo Portable resembles an iPhone but is chubbier.

Features and Specifications of NeoGeo Portable:

170 x 72 x 15 mm dimensions

4.3 inch display

SD card slot

On board 2GB storage

20 pre-loaded games

2,200 mAh rechargeable battery

Details of RAM and processor haven’t been disclosed yet, but there have been reports that this device is pretty powerful although not as powerful as a Playstation Portable.

NeoGeo Portable is going to be a treat for gamers who still love the all-time NeoGeo Classic titles and retro games, because the device comes with a classic collection of 20 popular retro games, including titles like The Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury Special, The King of Fighters ’94, Sengoku and Samurai Showdown.

There will be ports for audio/video as well as headphones. Obviously these titles would need a good emulator to work fine in a portable platform, and such an emulator is embedded in the software of the NeoGeo Portable.

It is still not sure if these games will be just like the original versions or if they would have some modifications in the visuals and graphics. It also needs to be confirmed if this is just a leaked prototype or if the company actually plans to make it official soon.
