BGMI 3.9 Update with Transformers Crossover Could Launch This Week: Here’s What to Expect

Krafton’s next major update for Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) is reportedly right around the corner.

Version 3.9—already live for PUBG Mobile globally—is expected to roll out for Indian players as early as July 16, bringing a crossover with Transformers and a wave of sci-fi inspired gameplay changes.

Sci-Fi Meets Battle Royale

Leaks and early beta access hint at a Transformers-themed mode that includes playable characters like Optimus Prime. Expect two dedicated hotdrop zones modeled after Transformers structures, where players can not only fight off enemies but also summon characters using loot-based mechanics. If accurate, this marks one of BGMI’s most ambitious in-game events to date.

The update may also revamp parts of the Erangel map, with one drop zone getting a cyberpunk-style makeover—complete with neon textures, dynamic lighting, and graffiti-covered walls. It's a visual departure from the game’s military-inspired aesthetic and could signal a broader shift toward more stylized updates.

New Vehicle, New Movement Style

Another gameplay addition reportedly in testing is a hoverboard, which lets players surf across terrain while standing upright—think more Back to the Future than motorbike. The hoverboard could change how players traverse large distances, though its impact on stealth and combat strategy remains to be seen.

In line with previous franchise collaborations, the Transformers event could also include a dedicated in-game currency, time-limited missions, and a collection of themed cosmetics.

Release Timeline

According to a report by Digit, Krafton has confirmed that the update will arrive “in the next few days,” though the company stopped short of offering a fixed date. Leaks, however, suggest the BGMI 3.9 update will begin rolling out on July 16, at 6:30 AM IST for Android and 9:00 AM IST for iOS.
