Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Now Available on Xbox Game Pass: Everything You Need to Know
Microsoft has announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is now available on Game Pass. Starting July 24, the first-person shooter can be accessed on Game Pass for Console, PC Game Pass, and Game Pass Ultimate. This confirms earlier reports about the game's addition to the subscription service this month.
Released in November last year, Modern Warfare 3 is the first Call of Duty title to join Xbox Game Pass. This addition comes ahead of the next franchise instalment, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which will be available on Game Pass from its launch date on October 25.

Activision-Blizzard Titles on Game Pass
Microsoft has been gradually adding Activision-Blizzard games to Game Pass after acquiring the company in a $69 billion deal in 2023. Diablo IV was added to the service in March. Last year, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer mentioned that regulatory hurdles had delayed adding Activision-Blizzard titles to Game Pass until 2024.
The announcement follows Microsoft's recent decision to increase Xbox Game Pass prices and introduce a new 'Standard' tier. This new tier will not include new games on their launch day. The price hike comes just before popular Call of Duty games are added to the service for the first time.
New Xbox Game Pass Tiers
Earlier this week, reports suggested that Microsoft might introduce additional Game Pass tiers. These could include a Cloud-only version, a friends plan, and a free ad-supported tier. These potential new tiers aim to offer more flexibility and options for subscribers.
Phil Spencer had previously stated that "Call of Duty and other Activision Blizzard games won't be available on Xbox Game Pass until 2024." He explained that regulatory issues had delayed the acquisition process, preventing Microsoft from adding these titles sooner.
The inclusion of Modern Warfare 3 marks a significant milestone as it becomes the first Call of Duty game on Xbox Game Pass. Fans eagerly await Black Ops 6's arrival on October 25, which will be available from day one on the service.
Enhancing Xbox Game Pass
This move is part of Microsoft's broader strategy to enhance its game subscription offerings by including high-profile titles like Call of Duty. The addition of these games aims to attract more subscribers and provide greater value through diverse gaming options.
The introduction of new subscription tiers could further expand Microsoft's reach by catering to different user preferences and budgets. These changes reflect Microsoft's commitment to evolving its services in response to consumer demand and market trends.
The recent price increase for Xbox Game Pass underscores the growing value proposition as more premium titles become accessible through the service. Despite higher costs, subscribers gain access to an expanding library of popular games.
Microsoft's Game Pass Ambitions
This strategic expansion aligns with Microsoft's goal of making Xbox Game Pass a leading game subscription service globally. By continuously adding sought-after titles like Modern Warfare 3 and exploring new subscription models, Microsoft aims to solidify its position in the competitive gaming market.
The availability of Modern Warfare 3 on Game Pass represents a significant development for both Microsoft and Call of Duty fans. It highlights Microsoft's ongoing efforts to enhance its gaming ecosystem through strategic acquisitions and service improvements.
