The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past Development and First Details
CD Projekt has officially announced The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past, a brand-new expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The DLC is being developed in collaboration with Fool's Theory, a studio made up of several developers who previously worked on The Witcher 3. The companies confirmed that more gameplay and story details will be revealed in late summer 2026.
The expansion once again puts players in control of Geralt of Rivia for a completely original adventure rather than a remaster or rework of older content. While earlier rumours hinted at a possible "Dune-style" setting, CD Projekt has not confirmed any location or story specifics yet.
The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past Officially Announced
Rumours surrounding a secret Witcher 3 expansion had circulated online for months before the reveal. Speculation increased after CD Projekt announced a special Blood and Wine anniversary REDstreams broadcast scheduled for May 28. However, the studio revealed Songs of the Past a day early after information unexpectedly surfaced through the RED Launcher.
In a statement, CD Projekt said the announcement timeline changed because the studio "found something" on its launcher earlier than expected. The company originally planned to unveil the expansion during the livestream event.
Alongside the DLC reveal, CD Projekt also confirmed upcoming technical changes for The Witcher 3. The studio said revised system requirements will arrive with the next patch to ensure smoother performance and long-term compatibility. Updated PC specifications will be shared through official channels closer to release.
CD Projekt's Wider Roadmap
The announcement comes during a busy development period for CD Projekt. The company is currently working on The Witcher 4, although it has already warned fans not to expect the game before 2027. Longer-term plans also include The Witcher 5 and The Witcher 6 as part of a new trilogy roadmap.
Meanwhile, CD Projekt has ruled out additional downloadable content for Cyberpunk 2077. Instead, the company's focus has shifted toward Cyberpunk 2, which co-CEO Michał Nowakowski recently suggested is still years away and unlikely to release before 2030. However, the Cyberpunk universe will continue through other projects, including Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, which will receive a dedicated panel at Anime Expo on July 3 in Los Angeles.
