EA Sports FC 27 Editions Explained: What Do They Mean?

Every year around this time, EA drops a football game and a pricing puzzle at the same time. FC 27 launches globally on 25 September 2026, with Kylian Mbappé fronting all three covers and Jude Bellingham joining him on the Ultimate Plus artwork. It’s a good time to be a Real Madrid fan.

The headline addition this year is The Grounds, a social football playground that extends the Clubs experience into kickabouts and 1v1s in a street setting. Career Mode gets a rebuilt Transfer Market with realistic player values, active club bidding, and negotiation tactics like performance and buy-back clauses.

This time around, there are three editions to choose between. Before you tap pre-order, the edition you pick matters, and more importantly, when you pick it matters even more, because EA has quietly attached expiry dates to most of the good stuff.

What Each Edition Costs

That PC gap is not small. The most expensive PC edition costs exactly what console players pay for the middle tier, so if you own a machine that clears the requirements, the maths is not really a debate.

Standard Edition Is For People Who Just Want To Play Football

At ₹5,999 on consoles and ₹3,999 on PC, this gets you the full game and every core mode, including Career, Clubs, Ultimate Team, and The Grounds. There is no early access, so you wait until 25 September like the rest of us. Pre-order any time between now and 24 September and EA adds a few Career Mode sweeteners: three ICONs or Heroes, a 5-star coach, a 5-star youth scout, plus a Grounds sweatsuit and a Mbappé-inspired stat boost. There is also a 92+ OVR untradeable ICON item, but that one lands in FC 26, which you have to already own.

Ultimate Edition Gets You In Seven Days Early and More

The ₹8,999 console tier, or ₹5,999 on PC, is where early access kicks in, letting you play from 18 September. You get the Season 1 Premium Pass and up to 6,000 FC Points delivered across three monthly drops, which is EA’s polite way of saying you will be logging in on the 15th of every month like a landlord collecting rent. On top of everything in Standard, you get a 5-star senior scout, an extra Player Evolution slot, and five additional Manager Live Challenge creation slots.

The catch is the early bird window. Pre-order by 31 August and you also get the 85+ OVR International ICON item and a 93+ OVR ICON player pick for FC 26. Miss that date and the ICON item quietly disappears from your package while the price stays the same.

Ultimate Plus Is The FUT Grinder’s Tier, But The Price Is Absurd

This is the new one, priced at ₹13,999 on PS5 and ₹8,999 on PC, and it exists only between 23 July and 31 August 2026. After that, it is gone, and EA has confirmed you cannot upgrade into it from Ultimate later, so there is no safety net if you sit on the fence too long.

What you are paying for is 10,000 FC Points across five monthly drops, Premium Passes for Seasons 1 through 5 instead of just one, a Hall of FUT direct player pick from a list of five cult favourites including Adebayo Akinfenwa and Marouane Fellaini (peak 2013 Everton nostalgia right there), and a Dynamic OVR pre-season boost in Manager Career. It is also not available on Nintendo platforms or the Epic Games Store, so Switch owners can stop reading this section.

Let me be blunt about the ₹13,999 sticker on Ultimate Plus. Functionally, it is last year’s game with a new roster and a coat of paint. Football games have run on this annual-refresh model for so long that “new edition” has quietly come to mean “the same product, resold with a few adjustments.” You are being asked to pay full AAA money and then a lot more, largely for a bundle of virtual currency and a couple of menu tweaks.

So Which One Should You Actually Buy?

If you play a handful of matches a week, mostly Career Mode or offline Kick-Off with friends, the Standard Edition is the sensible buy and the extra three thousand rupees buys you nothing you will genuinely miss. On PC at ₹3,999 it is an outright bargain by current AAA standards.

The Ultimate Edition makes sense if the seven-day head start actually matters, which it does if you take FUT seriously, because starting a week late in that economy is like reaching a wedding buffet after the paneer tikka is over. Everyone ahead of you has already built their squad off the early market.

Ultimate Plus is only worth it if you were planning to buy FC Points anyway. On paper, the maths works: the extra ₹5,000 over Ultimate gets you 4,000 more FC Points, four more Premium Passes covering Seasons 2 through 5, and a Hall of FUT pick, and on PC that premium shrinks to ₹3,000. But that arithmetic only holds if you accept the ₹13,999 starting point, which in itself is a crazy amount. If you were never going to spend on points, it is an easy skip.
