Final Fantasy 16 on Xbox: Square Enix Hints at Potential Release on Xbox After PC Port

Final Fantasy XVI, initially released for the PS5 in 2023, became available on PC last month. However, it remains absent from Xbox consoles, with no confirmed release plans. Square Enix has now shared an update regarding a potential Xbox Series S/X launch for the game.

Naoki Yoshida, also known as Yoshi-P and the producer of Final Fantasy 16, expressed Square Enix's desire to bring the game to Xbox. In a recent interview with Video Games, he stated, "Of course we did announce the PC version of the game, so looking towards the Xbox version, we do want to release it on Xbox." However, he added that they are not yet able to provide specific details about its availability.

Square Enix's Sales Strategy

Square Enix has faced challenges with its strategy of launching games exclusively on PlayStation. This approach has negatively impacted sales figures. Earlier this year, CEO Takashi Kiryu revealed in an earnings report that sales for titles like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Final Fantasy XVI did not meet expectations in terms of revenue and profit.

The company is now reconsidering its approach. Kiryu mentioned that future major releases would be multi-platform launches. This means they will be available across PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PC platforms simultaneously.

Xbox Players' Hopes

Despite the lack of a confirmed Xbox port for Final Fantasy 16, Yoshida encouraged Xbox players not to lose hope. He assured them that Square Enix is keen on making it happen. "But of course, I want to say that it's not as if there's zero hope," he said. "So players should not give up in terms of their hopes." The game's journey began when it was first launched on PS5 on June 22, 2023.

It later expanded to PC platforms like Steam and Epic Games Store on September 17.A Complete Edition for PS5 was also released recently, which includes expansions Echoes of the Fallen and The Rising Tide along with the main game. Neither Square Enix nor Microsoft has officially confirmed an Xbox release for Final Fantasy 16 yet. However, fans remain optimistic about its eventual arrival on Microsoft's console.
