Fortnite Blocked on iOS Again: Apple Shuts Down Epic’s Latest Attempt
The battle between Epic Games and Apple over Fortnite’s return to iOS is far from over, and this week saw yet another dramatic turn. After a short-lived comeback in the European Union through third-party app stores, Fortnite is once again unavailable on iPhones and iPads worldwide.
The news came straight from Fortnite’s official X account (formerly Twitter), where Epic Games announced that Apple has blocked their submission, preventing the game from appearing not just in the US App Store but also on third-party stores in the EU.

Fortnite’s Short-Lived EU Comeback
For a brief period, Fortnite fans in the European Union had a glimmer of hope. Thanks to the Digital Markets Act, which required Apple to open up to third-party app stores, Fortnite returned to iOS in Europe last year via the Epic Games Store and AltStore PAL.
It wasn’t exactly the App Store experience, but it was a way for fans to jump back into the battle royale on their iPhones and iPads. That window, however, seems to have slammed shut.
This week, The Verge confirmed that Fortnite is no longer available to download from either platform in Europe.
Tim Sweeney Speaks Out
The block didn’t go unnoticed. Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, took to X to express his frustration. He claimed that Apple is deliberately stalling Fortnite's return and even accused the company of allowing “unofficial Fortnite knock-offs” to slip through the App Store while blocking the real game.
Sweeney didn't hold back, going as far as to say that Apple’s app review process is being weaponized to keep Fortnite out. He also revealed that Epic had resubmitted Fortnite to the US App Store earlier this month after a recent legal ruling that allowed developers to link to external payment systems.
However, that submission was blocked, halting any plans for a US comeback. For fans in America, it’s another disappointing delay.
The Bigger Picture: Is Fortnite Ever Coming Back?
This latest development raises serious questions about whether Fortnite will ever make a full comeback on iOS. Despite Epic’s attempts to sidestep Apple’s payment restrictions and use third-party app stores in Europe, the game’s availability has been short-lived.
Legal battles between Epic and Apple are ongoing, but the repeated blocks suggest that Apple isn’t backing down anytime soon. For Fortnite fans, it means more waiting and more uncertainty.
