Sony Is Reportedly Working With Rockstar to Push GTA 6 to 60FPS on PS5 Pro

Grand Theft Auto VI may finally offer 60 frames per second gameplay—but only if you're playing on the PlayStation 5 Pro, according to fresh leaks. While the first trailers of GTA 6 showed the game locked at 30FPS on the base PS5, new reports suggest that Sony and Rockstar are working closely to push performance further for the upcoming enhanced console.

Here’s what’s reportedly in the works.

GTA 6 Could Run at 60FPS—But Only on the PS5 Pro, Leak Suggests

Rockstar and Sony Team Up to Optimize GTA 6 for PS5 Pro

A known leaker going by the name Detective Seeds on X (formerly Twitter) claims that a PlayStation engineer has confirmed a behind-the-scenes collaboration between Sony and Rockstar Games. The goal? To get GTA 6 running at 60FPS on the PS5 Pro, no matter which graphical setting players choose.

Unlike many titles that offer a choice between “Performance” and “Quality” modes, GTA 6 on PS5 Pro is said to feature multiple graphical presets—but all of them will target 60FPS, according to the leak.

GTA 6 Could Run at 60FPS—But Only on the PS5 Pro, Leak Suggests

While Rockstar has historically capped its titles at 30FPS at launch—including the widely played GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2—this shift would mark a notable step forward in console optimization, if it proves true.

Why PS5 Pro, Not the Base PS5?

The reports make it clear: this potential 60FPS support is exclusive to the PS5 Pro, not the standard PlayStation 5. That’s despite the fact that current PS5 hardware is already capable of delivering solid performance across most AAA games.

The collaboration appears to be part of a broader marketing deal between Sony and Rockstar, which could also include special edition PS5 Pro bundles, game promotions, and more.

The timing is no coincidence either. GTA 6 is set to launch on May 26, 2026, and the leaker claims Sony is prepping a firmware update for the PS5 Pro in the same month. Whether that’s to unlock performance, enable platform-specific features, or simply ensure day-one compatibility remains unclear.

Past Performance, Future Expectations

To be clear, Rockstar hasn’t officially confirmed any of this. But it’s worth noting that GTA V runs at 1440p/60FPS on the current PS5 Pro setup. If the newer hardware is even modestly more capable, 60FPS for GTA 6 seems technically plausible.

The game's second trailer, which was captured on the base PS5, ran at 30FPS—a frame rate that disappointed some fans hoping for smoother performance. Still, Rockstar tends to prioritize cinematic presentation in its early builds, so that doesn’t necessarily reflect the final output.

What About Other Rockstar Titles?

Interestingly, the leak hints that this isn’t just a one-off. The collaboration might also pave the way for other upcoming Rockstar titles to launch with improved frame rates on the PS5 Pro, though no specific games have been named.

While it's too early to say how wide-reaching this partnership could be, the possibility of smoother gameplay across Rockstar’s catalog—combined with exclusive bundles and hardware enhancements—could give Sony an edge as it looks to refresh its console lineup.
