Halo: Campaign Evolved Is Coming to PS5—Here’s What’s Different and Why It Matters
This is one for the history books: Halo, the epic saga that’s lived on Xbox for nearly 25 years, is coming to PlayStation 5 in 2026. Halo: Campaign Evolved isn’t just a quick port—it’s a rebuilt, remastered take on the original Halo: Combat Evolved, with new content, upgrades for modern hardware, and features aimed squarely at today’s players.

Back to the Ring—But Brand New
Longtime fans know the story: Master Chief, Cortana, and the Covenant—all wrapped up in the mystery of the Halo ring. But Halo: Campaign Evolved takes everything back to the beginning, adding high-definition visuals, all-new cinematics, and smoother controls. The game even includes three new prequel missions starring Chief and Sgt. Johnson, so you’re not just replaying the old campaign—you’re getting fresh lore and new gameplay options.
Sharper Combat and More Tools
Gameplay’s gotten a full tune-up, with improved movement and wayfinding plus nine new weapons from across Halo’s history. Enemies, environments, and challenges are more varied, and you’ll even hijack vehicles (including the classic Covenant Wraith tank) for the first time in the original campaign.
If you love mixing things up, “Skulls” modifiers bring randomized weapons, wild new enemy waves, and some quirky tweaks (Grunt headshots still burst in confetti). The sound team remastered the soundtrack from scratch, delivering those iconic themes in new detail.
Couch Co-op, Crossplay, and the Modern Touch
Two-player split-screen remains if you want old-school memories, but four-player online co-op is now baked in—all with crossplay and cross-progression across console and PC. That’s the kind of feature set Halo’s always deserved, finally making it easy to jump in with friends wherever they’re playing.
The Big Move: Halo For All
Community Director Brian “ske7ch” Jarrard says the goal’s simple: To bring Halo’s stories and experiences to everyone. Launching day-and-date on PS5 isn’t just big—it’s historic, and it shows just how much the console landscape is changing in 2026.
