Krafton Renames BGMI Lite to BGMI Air Ahead of India Launch, Crosses 10 Million Pre-Registrations

Krafton India has renamed its upcoming lightweight battle royale game, previously announced as BGMI Lite, to BGMI Air ahead of its planned launch in India later this year. The developer has also confirmed that the game has crossed 10 million pre-registrations, signalling strong interest ahead of its release.

Designed to make the Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) experience accessible to more players, BGMI Air will feature a smaller download size and a more accessible gaming experience. Krafton has also confirmed that an open beta will be introduced shortly, allowing players to test the game and provide feedback before its full launch.

BGMI Lite Renamed to BGMI Air: What's New?

In a press note, Krafton India confirmed that BGMI Lite will now be called BGMI Air. The company has not announced any other changes to the game, which is still designed to deliver the core BGMI experience while catering to devices with limited storage and resources.

The developer has confirmed that BGMI Air has crossed 10 million pre-registrations ahead of its expected India launch later in 2026. An open beta is planned shortly, with player feedback expected to help refine the gaming experience before the full release.

While Krafton has yet to reveal an exact launch date, the latest announcement suggests that preparations for the game's debut are progressing.

BGMI Air Pre-Registrations, Download Size and Availability

Pre-registrations for BGMI Air opened for Android users in India on August 25 through the Google Play Store. The game is expected to have an initial download size of around 1GB, with Krafton promising no forced additional packages before players enter their first match.

In comparison, the standard BGMI installation can grow to around 8GB with additional game resources. The smaller initial download could make BGMI Air a more convenient option for users with limited storage space or slower internet connections.

Will BGMI Players Need a Separate Account?

BGMI Air will be available as a separate game, meaning existing BGMI players will not need to transfer their accounts to access the new title. Krafton has also emphasised that the lighter version will not compromise on the core gaming experience.

The company first announced the development of BGMI Lite in August as part of its efforts to expand the BGMI franchise in India. With pre-registrations now exceeding 10 million, the upcoming open beta should offer the first opportunity for players to experience the game before its full launch.
