Marvel Rivals Season 3 Releasing on July 11: Check New Heroes, Trailer, Balance Changes, Team-Ups, More

Marvel Rivals Season 3 is set to begin on July 11, 2025, introducing several balance changes and adjustments to Team-Up abilities. While some characters will experience individual or nerfs, the season will see modifications to existing Team-Up abilities. Additionally two new Team-Ups have been unveiled, enhancing the synergy between heroes and villains in the game.

Jean Grey, known as the Phoenix, will be introduced as a new character in Marvel Rivals with Season 3. Like previous additions to the roster, Phoenix will bring new Team-Up possibilities to the game. Similarly, Blade is expected to do so in Season 3.5. Since the game's launch, nearly 70% of all Team-Up abilities have been altered, and more adjustments are anticipated with each major update.

Team-Up Abilities Removed

In Season 3, only two Team-Up abilities will be retired: Storming Ignition (The Human Torch + Storm) and ESU Alumnus (Spider-Man + Squirrel Girl). The removal of these combinations surprised some players. The Storm and Human Torch synergy was rare but significant due to its impact on the flying character meta established in Season 2.5 with Ultron's arrival.

The Spider-Man and Squirrel Girl combination was not frequently used in matches, likely leading to its removal. This change leaves both characters without a Team-Up ability for now. However, Storm still retains a Team-Up with Jeff the Land Shark, and all three characters affected by these removals will receive new abilities as compensation in Season 3.

New Team-Up Abilities Introduced

Season 3 introduces two new character synergies. One involves Phoenix as an anchor for Wolverine's "Feral Leap" ability. When Wolverine uses this ability, a flame aura appears around him, damaging nearby enemies for a short time. During this period, Wolverine's attacks gain Lifesteal, converting damage into Bonus Health.

The second new synergy features Spider-Man gaining an ability anchored by the Human Torch. This allows Spider-Man to shoot a burning web that attaches to enemies as a Spider-Tracer. Enemies with this burning Tracer take damage over time. Spider-Man can use this Tracer similarly to his other web balls.

Changes To Existing Team-Ups

Two existing synergies are being expanded into triple hero groups in Season 3: Symbiote Shenanigans (Venom + Jeff the Land Shark) and Stark Protocol (Ultron + Iron Man). Symbiote Shenanigans gains Hela as a member; her Soul Drainer Hel Sphere launches symbiote tentacles that slow enemies within range when paired with Venom.

The Stark Protocol synergy adds Squirrel Girl alongside Iron Man and Ultron. With Iron Man as an anchor, Squirrel Girl gains a nanotech gauntlet that acts independently. She can activate it to send a squirrel flying toward an enemy for an explosive attack.

Impact On Game Dynamics

The introduction of these new synergies and changes aims to keep Marvel Rivals fresh by encouraging different character combinations than before. Although it's uncertain if these adjustments will create a new meta within the game, they offer unique team compositions that counter flying characters' strengths.

Marvel Rivals continues to evolve since its release on December 6, 2024. Developed by NetEase Games using Unreal Engine 5, it is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S platforms with limited cross-platform play options excluding PC crossplay.
