Microsoft is Combining Xbox and Game Pass Apps on Android and iOS: New Features Coming to PC & Consoles

Microsoft has announced a significant update for Xbox users, integrating Xbox Game Pass features directly into the main Xbox app on mobile devices. This consolidation means that the separate Xbox Game Pass app will be phased out, with Microsoft halting its download options from November.

This change aims to streamline the user experience by providing a single point of access for managing game subscriptions and exploring new titles on iOS, Android, and iPadOS platforms.

Xbox App Merges with Game Pass

The updated Xbox app will introduce an array of functionalities previously exclusive to the Game Pass app. Subscribers will soon enjoy the convenience of browsing the entire Game Pass catalogue, receiving updates on new game additions, and managing their memberships all from one place.

"You'll be able to browse the full Game Pass catalogue to find your favourite games and stay in the loop with alerts for new games coming to the service," stated Microsoft in an Xbox Wire post. Furthermore, Game Pass Ultimate members will gain the added benefit of streaming select titles through Xbox Cloud Gaming on their mobile devices.

Enhancing the Gaming Experience

In addition to these mobile app updates, Microsoft is also enhancing the gaming experience on PC and Xbox consoles with several new features. The Xbox Game Bar, a tool that allows players to capture gameplay, access game launchers, and view recently played games, now includes a Compact Mode.

This mode is designed for users with smaller screens or who use Windows-based gaming handhelds, offering streamlined access to Game Bar widgets for a more convenient gaming experience. To activate Compact Mode, users can navigate to the Game Bar settings and enable the feature through the General tab.

Updates to Xbox App on PC

Moreover, the Xbox app on PC is receiving an update to improve game management. Now, users can easily view and install game add-ons simultaneously with the main title, simplifying the process of adding content to their games.

This enhanced management extends to Xbox consoles, where players can pre-download game updates and immediately jump into play once the update goes live. This feature is currently available for select titles, with plans to expand its reach.

A new notification system is also being introduced for Xbox users. This system alerts players when a game on their wish list is released, joins Game Pass, or is featured in a Free Play Day promotion, ensuring they never miss out on their most anticipated games.

These updates reflect Microsoft's commitment to improving the gaming experience across its platforms, making it easier for users to access, manage, and enjoy their games. With these enhancements, Xbox aims to offer a more seamless and user-friendly service to its global community of gamers.
