Microsoft Plans Price Hike for Xbox Game Pass in India, Potential Hike for Xbox Series X Too

Microsoft has recently announced its plans to increase the prices of Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Series X consoles in India and several other global markets.

Microsoft's popular gaming subscription service, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, will experience a price increase in various markets worldwide. According to a report from The Verge, the new pricing for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will take effect on July 6, 2023. This subscription service offers gamers access to a vast library of games, including both Xbox console and PC titles.

Xbox Game Pass for Console

In addition to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, the price of Xbox Game Pass for Console will also be raised. Similar to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, this subscription service allows gamers to enjoy a wide range of games specifically designed for Xbox consoles.

Exceptions to the Price Increase

While the price adjustments for Xbox Game Pass will apply to most markets, there are some exceptions. Norway, Chile, Denmark, Switzerland, and Saudi Arabia will be exempted from these changes, meaning subscribers in these countries will not experience any price increases.

Impact on the Indian Market

In India, where Xbox Game Pass has gained significant popularity, the current cost of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is Rs 499. However, starting from July 6, the price will increase to Rs 549. Similarly, the price of the Xbox Game Pass for console, currently priced at Rs 349, will be raised to Rs 379.

Microsoft's Strategy: Xbox Series X Pricing Adjustments

Apart from the cloud-based gaming services, Microsoft has also decided to adjust the pricing of its Xbox Series X gaming console. This move can be seen as a response to Sony's PlayStation 5, a major competitor in the gaming console market. The report suggests that Microsoft aims to align the pricing of the Xbox Series X with the price increase announced for the PS5 last year.
