Microsoft Brings Xbox Cloud Gaming to Game Pass Core and Standard: Here’s How to Try It
Microsoft is opening up its cloud streaming service to more tiers. Until now, Xbox Cloud Gaming was tied to the highest-priced Game Pass Ultimate subscription. But starting this week, Xbox Insiders with a Game Pass Core or Game Pass Standard plan can also stream games directly to their devices.

Cloud Gaming Beyond Ultimate
Xbox Cloud Gaming has been one of the standout perks of Game Pass Ultimate, letting players stream from a large catalog without installing games locally. With this update, Core and Standard subscribers in the Insider Program can also jump into supported titles directly from their catalog, or even certain games they already own.
How to Try Xbox Cloud Gaming on Core or Standard
Getting started is fairly simple. You first need to sign in to Xbox Cloud Gaming on a supported device such as a browser, console, or TV. Once logged in, you’ll see your catalog of available games on the Home screen. Choose a game, click play, and it will stream instantly.
If you’re trying this on a TV or through a supported browser, you’ll need to enable preview features. Visit xbox.com/play or open the Xbox app on your TV, head into your account settings, and switch on the preview features option. After that, you can pick a game and begin streaming without needing to download it.
PC Gaming Options Are Expanding
Microsoft is also using this Insider test to give Core and Standard members access to PC versions of select games. To try it, download the Xbox PC app, sign in, and open the Game Pass tab. From there, you can browse the available PC catalog and start installing or playing on your computer or Windows handheld.
Why This Matters
Microsoft has been gradually moving cloud gaming from an add-on feature to a core part of its subscription ecosystem. Earlier this year, Ultimate subscribers gained the ability to stream games they already owned, not just those in Game Pass. By bringing streaming to Core and Standard tiers, even in preview form, the company is laying the groundwork for a wider rollout.
