Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection Leak Points to September 29 Launch

If you’ve been waiting to dive back into the brutal nostalgia of early Mortal Kombat games, the wait might be shorter than expected. A recent leak suggests Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection could launch on September 29. The info reportedly came from the game’s listing on the Xbox app, spotted by users and first discussed on Reddit.

This upcoming release, which bundles the earliest entries in the Mortal Kombat franchise, was first announced at Sony’s State of Play event back in June. But until now, there hadn’t been any clarity on when it would actually hit store shelves.

Xbox App Listing Fuels Speculation

Screenshots shared on Reddit show a September 29 launch date on some Xbox regions, though a few users outside the U.S. saw September 30—likely a time zone difference. Interestingly, the listing still displays June 6, 2025, as the release date in India, which lines up with the original announcement date and could be a placeholder.

There’s been no official update from Digital Eclipse, the studio behind the compilation. But with Evo 2025 kicking off in Las Vegas on August 1, some fans believe a formal reveal might drop during the fighting game tournament.

What’s in the Legacy Kollection?

Legacy Kollection is shaping up to be more than just a ROM dump. According to the reveal, it’ll feature the first four Mortal Kombat games, covering their arcade, console, and handheld versions. Think Mortal Kombat 1 through 4, plus some portable spin-offs.

The collection also adds online multiplayer, which means you can finally test your old-school combos against real opponents without sharing a controller.

More interestingly, the bundle will include bonus content like:

  • An interactive documentary tracing the history of the Mortal Kombat series
  • Developer interviews with the creators of the original games
  • Deep dives into the character timelines and backstories

So it’s not just a game bundle—it’s part museum, part playable archive.

Platforms and Availability

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection will launch across nearly every modern system:

  • PC
  • PlayStation 4 and 5
  • Xbox One and Series S/X
  • Nintendo Switch
  • And even the upcoming Switch 2

That makes it one of the most widely available Mortal Kombat releases yet.
