PlayStation Plus Game Catalog for August 2025 Introduces Mortal Kombat 1, Spider-Man, Sword of the Sea, More

The PlayStation Plus Game Catalog for August has been unveiled, featuring a diverse selection of titles. Leading the lineup is Mortal Kombat 1, which reboots the series with a fresh timeline following Mortal Kombat 11. This month also sees the addition of Marvel's Spider-Man, Sword of the Sea, Earth Defense Force 6, and Unicorn Overlord among others. These games will be accessible to PS Plus Extra and Deluxe/Premium members starting August 19.

In addition to these new additions, Sony announced two classic Resident Evil games for the Classics Catalog. Available to PS Plus Deluxe/Premium subscribers in August are Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. These classics will be available on both PS4 and PS5 platforms.

Mortal Kombat 1 and Marvel's Spider-Man Join the Lineup

Mortal Kombat 1, released in 2023, is a significant highlight this month. The game resets the franchise's universe with Fire God Liu Kang orchestrating a new tournament. It offers a cinematic story mode along with multiplayer features and supports cross-play across platforms. Subscribers can enjoy this title on PS5.

Marvel's Spider-Man by Insomniac Games also joins the catalog this month. The remastered version offers enhanced visuals on PS5 and allows players to explore an immersive recreation of New York City. The game presents a classic Spider-Man narrative featuring iconic villains like Dr. Octopus and Vulture.

New Adventures Await with Sword of the Sea

Sword of the Sea launches as a day-one title on August 19 for PS5 users. Developed by Giant Squid, known for Abzu and The Pathless, this adventure game lets players traverse sand and sea using a surfboard-like sword. The game combines vibrant art styles with puzzle-solving elements.

Players must gather Ocean Seeds to restore water to deserts, unlocking new exploration areas. The game's distinct art style is reminiscent of Journey and Abzu, offering an engaging experience for players.

Tactical Battles in Unicorn Overlord

Unicorn Overlord makes its debut in August as well. This tactical RPG from Vanillaware is set in Fevrith's fantasy world where Prince Alain battles against the Zenoiran Empire. Players can engage in large-scale tactical battles while exploring towns and completing side quests.

The game will be available on both PS4 and PS5 platforms, providing an expansive fantasy experience for RPG enthusiasts.

Additional Titles Enhance Game Catalog

The Game Catalog also welcomes Indika this month, a narrative-driven adventure featuring a young nun accompanied by the devil himself. Players solve puzzles and interact with other characters throughout their journey.

Other titles joining include Earth Defense Force 6, Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key, Harold Halibut, and Coral Island. These additions offer varied gameplay experiences across different genres.

Classic Resident Evil Games Return

This month's Classics Catalog brings back two beloved Resident Evil titles: Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Both games are available to Premium/Deluxe members on PS4 and PS5 consoles.

Sony also introduces a Game Trial for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach for Deluxe/Premium members, allowing up to five hours of gameplay exploration.
