Resident Evil 2 Remake is Coming to the iPhones, iPads, Macs in December: Everything You Need to Know

Resident Evil 2 is set to arrive on Apple devices by December 31. The 2019 remake of this survival-horror classic is now available for pre-order on the App Store. Earlier this year, Capcom announced its development for iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices alongside Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. This will be the fourth Resident Evil game to be launched on Apple platforms.

The App Store listing indicates that Resident Evil 2 will be playable on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16 series, and iPad and MacBook models with Apple's M series (M1 and newer) chipsets. An initial portion of the game can be accessed for free, but a full version requires an in-app purchase. Universal Purchase support allows the game to be played across compatible Apple devices once bought.

Resident Evil Games on Apple Devices

Capcom confirmed Resident Evil 2's development for Apple devices in June. Previously, Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil: Village, and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard were released on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS as part of Apple's initiative to introduce more triple-A games to its ecosystem. However, these console games reportedly had low sales figures on Apple's platform.

A report from mobilegamer.biz in June highlighted that the Resident Evil 4 remake saw about 357,000 installs on iPhones but only around 7,000 users paid for the complete game. Despite these numbers, Capcom continues to expand its offerings on Apple devices.

Storage Requirements and Gameplay Experience

The Resident Evil 2 remake will require approximately 31GB of storage space. Additionally, users need at least double the application's size in free storage for installation. While touch controls are available for iPad and iPhone gameplay, Apple suggests using a controller for optimal experience.

It's important to note that save data cannot be transferred between macOS and iOS devices. This limitation may affect players who wish to switch between different Apple platforms while playing.

Future Developments in the Series

In July, Capcom announced that a new Resident Evil game is under development. Koshi Nakanishi, known for directing Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, will lead this project. This news has sparked interest among fans eager to see what innovations the next installment will bring.

Besides Capcom's iconic survival-horror series, other major titles like Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Mirage and Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding have also been launched on Apple devices. These releases are part of a broader strategy to enhance gaming options available on Apple's ecosystem.
