Sony Announces The Last of Us Part II Remastered for PS5 with New Features

Naughty Dog officially unveiled The Last of Us Part II Remastered for PlayStation 5 on Friday evening, confirming a release date of January 19th, 2024. The remastered version introduces a compelling "No Return" roguelike survival mode, designed to challenge players with randomized encounters.

According to Jonathon Dornbush from Naughty Dog, players can immerse themselves in various stealth and combat scenarios featuring new characters. The mode adds unique twists to each encounter, promising a fresh and unpredictable experience.

Technical Improvements

The game boasts technical enhancements, offering native 4K output in fidelity mode and 1440p upscaled to 4K in performance mode. For users with Variable Refresh Rate (VRR)-enabled TVs, there's an option to unlock framerate. Additionally, players can expect improved loading times and enjoy DualSense features such as haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.

Additional Features for Enhanced Gameplay

In addition to the roguelike mode, The Last of Us Part II Remastered includes a new guitar-free play mode with unlockable instruments. Players can also explore incomplete levels cut from the original game, accompanied by developer commentary for these levels and the main campaign's cutscenes. A speed run mode further adds to the diverse gaming experience.

Upgrade Options for Existing Owners

For current owners of The Last of Us Part II on PS4, a $10 upgrade option to the digital version of the Remastered edition is available. This allows users to seamlessly transfer their saves from the original game to the enhanced version.

A notable addition is the "Lost Levels," playable sequences previously excluded from the game. While still in progress, these levels provide valuable insights into the game's creation.
