Sony Brings Passkey Support to the PlayStation: Here’s How to Set it Up
Sony has recently announced a significant update for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 users worldwide, introducing Passkey support as an innovative alternative to traditional password logins.
This new feature aims to enhance the security of user accounts while offering a more convenient sign-in process.

What is Passkey?
At its core, a Passkey represents a unique cryptographic key that pairs exclusively with the device and service it is utilized for, such as a PlayStation console. The chief advantage of a Passkey lies in its security, as it remains impervious to theft or reuse, thereby offering robust protection against data phishing attempts.
Additionally, the convenience of not having to memorize another password adds to the user-friendly nature of this system. Users can access their accounts using familiar device unlocking methods, including face unlock, fingerprint scans, or PINs, further simplifying the login process and eliminating the need for entering complex passwords each time.
How to Set Up a Passkey on Your PlayStation?
- The procedure to activate a Passkey on PlayStation consoles is designed to be user-friendly. Here's a step-by-step guide:
- Navigate to the Sony PlayStation Account Management page and log in with your PSN account details.
- Select the Security option found in the left sidebar to access the PSN account security settings.
- Click on Edit next to the 'Sign in With Passkey' option displayed on this page.
- In the pop-up window that appears, select 'Create a Passkey.'
Follow the instructions shown on-screen to create your Passkey and finalize the setup process.
Following the activation of a Passkey, Sony will dispatch a confirmation to both your email address and mobile phone number, ensuring you are informed about the successful setup. Should there be a need to make adjustments to your Passkey settings, such as deletion or deactivation, the same steps can be revisited to carry out these changes efficiently.
This development reflects Sony's ongoing commitment to enhancing user experience and security on its platforms. With the introduction of Passkey support, PlayStation users can now enjoy a more secure and hassle-free login process, aligning with modern digital security practices.
