PS6 Key Specifications Tipped: Sony’s Next-Gen Console May Get 30GB of RAM

Sony hasn’t said a word about its next PlayStation yet, but hardware leaks are starting to sketch an early outline. The latest one focuses on memory, and it’s a meaningful jump.

According to hardware insider Kepler_L2, Sony’s PlayStation 6 could ship with 30GB of GDDR7 RAM. That’s notably higher than earlier chatter pointing to 24GB, and far above the 16GB found in the current PlayStation 5.

It’s still just a leak, but if accurate, it tells us something important about how Sony is thinking about its next console generation.

The reported setup is specific. The leak claims Sony may use ten 3GB GDDR7 modules on a 160-bit bus, delivering up to 640GB/s of memory bandwidth. For comparison, the PS5 tops out at 448GB/s.

On paper, that extra bandwidth isn’t about flashy numbers. It’s about headroom. More memory and faster throughput can support larger game worlds, heavier ray tracing workloads, and more stable high-resolution performance over time. It also gives developers more flexibility as engines and tools evolve late in a console’s life cycle.

This lines up with other rumors pointing toward a new AMD-based system-on-chip, potentially built around future Zen CPU cores and next-generation RDNA graphics. Those details remain unconfirmed, but a larger memory pool would make sense alongside more demanding hardware.

Where things get tricky is cost.

GDDR7 is still expensive, and the broader memory market hasn’t exactly been stable. AI infrastructure and data-center demand have tightened supply, pushing prices higher across the board. Committing to 30GB of high-speed memory isn’t a small decision when you’re manufacturing millions of consoles.

That’s why some community discussions have questioned whether 20GB might be a more practical target. Less memory could help keep the launch price under control, especially if Sony wants to avoid pushing too far past the $600 range early on.

Kepler_L2 has pushed back on that idea, arguing that 20GB wouldn’t be sufficient for where games are headed. The trade-off, if the leak is accurate, is that Sony may be willing to absorb higher costs early in the console’s life and rely on memory prices easing over time.
