Sony PlayStation 5 Slim Launched in India. Here's How Much It Costs and When It Goes on Sale

Sony has officially announced the price of the PS5 Slim in India. To recall, the Sony PlayStation 5 Slim edition was unveiled back in November 2023 but has only just hit the Indian market.

The Sony PS5 Slim is a more compact and lighter version of the original PlayStation 5. With its sleek design, enhanced storage capacity, powerful performance features, and lower price tag, the Sony PlayStation 5 Slim is set to be a sought-after gaming console for players in India.

The Sony PS5 Slim price in India is set at Rs 44,990 for the Digital Edition, which comes without a disc drive. The disc version is priced at Rs 54,990. This new addition to the PlayStation family will be available for purchase from April 5 across various retailers, both offline and online.

To recall, the original Sony PS5 is currently price at Rs 54,990 in India, while the disc-less edition also fetches the same Rs 44,990 price tag. So it is unclear if Sony will discontinue the older PS5 models when the new 'Slim' variant hits markets on April 4.

Sony PlayStation 5 Slim: Design

As indicated by its name, the PlayStation 5 Slim offers a more compact and lighter design compared to the standard PlayStation 5. It boasts a reduction in weight of 25 percent and occupies approximately 30 percent less space. To put this into perspective, while the original PS5's dimensions are 104mm x 390mm x 260mm, the PS5 Slim measures 96mm x 358mm x 216mm.

The Digital Edition of the PS5 Slim is notably slimmer and lighter than its disc counterpart. Another significant difference is the storage capacity. The PS5 Slim comes equipped with 1TB of built-in storage, offering more space than the 825GB available in the original PS5.

The PS5 Slim is powered by a robust combination of the x86-64-AMD Ryzen Zen 2 CPU and the AMD Radeon RDNA 2-based graphics engine, enhanced with Ray Tracing Acceleration. This console is fitted with 16GB of GDDR6 RAM and a 1TB SSD for storage. For connectivity, it includes two USB Type-C ports and two USB Type-A ports.

Designed to enhance gaming experiences, the PS5 Slim supports 4K 120Hz TVs and 8K TVs, ensuring high-quality visuals for all games. Its backwards compatibility feature allows gamers to enjoy a vast library of over 4,000 PS4 titles. Additionally, it provides Tempest 3D AudioTech, supports 4K gaming at 60 FPS, and includes ray tracing capabilities.

Despite the difference in size and weight, both the disc and disc-less versions of the PS5 Slim offer identical specifications, making it a versatile choice for all gamers.
