Sony PS5 Pro Announced with Major Improvements in GPU and AI Performance: Check Price, Specs, Features
Sony has unveiled its most advanced gaming console to date, the PlayStation 5 Pro. This new model is a version of the PlayStation 5, which was first introduced in 2020. The PS5 Pro focuses on significantly improving the graphical quality of its games through three major upgrades.
Enhanced GPU and Ray Tracing Capabilities
The first notable upgrade is the GPU. Although it retains the same architecture, the PS5 Pro's GPU now boasts 67% more compute units and 28% faster memory. Sony asserts that these enhancements result in a 45% increase in game rendering speed compared to the PS5.

Additionally, hardware-accelerated ray tracing has been improved. Given that AMD graphics depend on compute units for ray tracing, the increased number of compute units enhances ray tracing performance. Sony claims that the PS5 Pro GPU can cast rays at double or even triple the rate of the PS5 GPU.
Another significant improvement is a new AI-driven image upscaling solution developed by Sony, known as PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution. This technology uses AI and machine learning to upscale images to higher resolutions.
As this is likely a hardware-accelerated solution, it should outperform the software-based AMD FSR technology used in PS5 games and be comparable to Nvidia's DLSS or Intel's XeSS. However, Sony did not mention any frame generation aspect, indicating this is purely an image upscaling solution.
Performance and Quality Balance
PlayStation lead architect Mark Cerny discussed the need for a performance and quality toggle within games on the PS5, allowing users to choose between high frame rates or image quality. Users often selected performance mode for better frame rates, sacrificing image quality.
The aim of the PS5 Pro is to eliminate this toggle by providing image quality expected from quality mode at 60FPS, thus offering both high performance and superior image quality. With more powerful hardware and native image upscaling capabilities, achieving this balance seems feasible.
However, we will need to wait for native support within games to confirm if these claims hold true. Sony showcased several first and third-party titles that benefit from the enhanced performance of the new console. Games optimized for the new console will feature a "PS5 Pro Enhanced" label.
Additional PS5 Pro Features and Specifications
Sony also introduced a new PS5 Pro Game Boost feature that can enhance resolution and frame rate for over 8500 PS4 titles on the new console. The PS5 Pro supports Wi-Fi 7 in regions where it is available and includes support for VRR and 8K displays. The physical design of the PS5 Pro shows only minor changes from the standard PS5.

It is taller than the current slim model but maintains the same thickness as the disc-less PS5 model. The PS5 Pro does not include an optional optical disc model; users must purchase it separately (the same drive available for the PS5). However, it comes with 2TB internal storage compared to 1TB on the standard model.
Sony PS5 Pro Pricing and Availability
The PlayStation 5 Pro will be priced at $700 (roughly Rs 58,800), which is a 56% increase over the $450 price tag of the digital PS5. The console will be available for purchase starting November 7, with pre-orders beginning on September 26.
As of now, the pricing and release date of the PS5 Pro in India is unknown, but we should get more information in the coming days. This new release aims to provide gamers with an unparalleled experience by combining powerful hardware with advanced graphical capabilities.
