Sony PS6 Teased for the Coming Years; Project Amethyst Update Highlights Next-Gen GPU Tech
Sony and AMD have been working together on Project Amethyst, a venture focused on machine learning for graphics and gameplay. Recently, both companies provided updates on this project and the development of Sony's next console, the PlayStation 6 (PS6). This collaboration aims to enhance gaming experiences through advanced technology.
In a recent video, Jack Huynh from AMD and Mark Cerny from Sony discussed the progress of Project Amethyst. They talked about "Neural Arrays," a new technology designed to improve GPU efficiency. This innovation allows GPU compute units to share data and process tasks collectively, which is said to revolutionise upscaling and denoising technologies like AMD's FSR and Sony's PSSR.

Focus on Ray Tracing Technology
Another significant aspect of their collaboration is ray tracing technology. The companies have developed "Radiance Cores," a dedicated hardware block for real-time ray tracing and path tracing. According to Huynh, Radiance Cores will significantly enhance lighting performance in games, offering players a more immersive experience.
Cerny also mentioned that these technological advancements are expected to benefit Sony's upcoming PS6 console. He expressed enthusiasm about incorporating these innovations into future gaming systems, although they currently exist only in simulation form.
Exciting Prospects for Future Consoles
The nearly nine-minute discussion between Cerny and Huynh highlighted the potential impact of these technologies on future consoles. While it's still early days for these developments, the results so far are promising. Cerny shared his excitement about bringing these advancements to a new console in the coming years.
As Sony and AMD continue their work on Project Amethyst, gamers can look forward to enhanced graphics and gameplay experiences. The collaboration between these tech giants promises to push the boundaries of what's possible in gaming technology.
