Here’s How Much the New Xbox Game Pass Plans Will Cost You Each Month in India
What started as one of the best deals in gaming is no longer as simple. Xbox Game Pass has been split into three new plans called Essential, Premium, and Ultimate, each aimed at different types of players. Along with more games and fresh perks like Fortnite Crew and Ubisoft+ Classics, there’s also a price hike that has sparked mixed reactions across the community.

What’s Changing
Game Pass subscribers will now find themselves in one of three tiers. Essential takes over from what used to be Xbox Live Core. It offers online multiplayer, cloud gaming for select owned titles, and a catalog of more than 50 games across console and PC. Think of titles like Hades, Stardew Valley, and Cities: Skylines Remastered.
Premium is the new middle ground. It includes a bigger library of 200-plus games that work across console, PC, and cloud. Recent hits such as Diablo IV and Hogwarts Legacy are now part of the lineup, along with Xbox first-party games that arrive within a year of release. It also comes with in-game extras for titles like League of Legends and Warzone.
Ultimate sits at the top. It is the most expensive option and now costs about 50 percent more than before. The plan gives players access to over 75 day one releases every year, including Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Ninja Gaiden 4, and The Outer Worlds 2.
The catalog has grown to more than 400 games, and Microsoft is folding in Ubisoft+ Classics, EA Play, and Fortnite Crew, which brings a monthly drop of V-Bucks and access to the Battle Pass. Cloud gaming has also been upgraded to stream in 1440p with shorter wait times.
The New Prices
| Plan | US Price (per month) | India Price (per month) |
| Essential | $9.99 | ₹499 (₹99 first month) |
| Premium | $14.99 | ₹699 (₹99 first 14 days) |
| Ultimate | $29.99 (was $19.99) | ₹1,389 (was ₹829) |
| PC Game Pass | $16.49 (was $11.99) | ₹939 (was ₹449) |
Prices for existing subscribers roll out in November, while new members are already paying the updated rates.
Why Microsoft Says It Costs More
Microsoft argues the higher prices reflect what is now bundled into the service. Fortnite Crew on its own is worth about $12 a month, while Ubisoft+ Classics usually costs $7.99 per platform. Combine that with more day one releases and improved cloud streaming, and the company says the package still offers strong value compared to buying games outright.
How Players Are Reacting
Not everyone is convinced. A poll of 10,000 readers by IGN showed 45 percent said they have no interest in subscribing to Game Pass at all after the price increase. About 30 percent said they plan to stick with Ultimate, while the rest are undecided.
Many fans have taken to forums and social media to say the math no longer works for them. One common argument is that at $30 a month in the United States, you are essentially paying the price of five full games a year. Others say the extras like Fortnite Crew actually make it cheaper for them since they were already paying for those separately.
The Bigger Picture
Despite the backlash, Game Pass is still growing. Microsoft says player engagement and developer participation are at record highs, and the service is now responsible for billions in revenue each year. By bundling more third-party perks and pushing cloud gaming out of beta, the company is betting that most players will see enough value to stay subscribed, even if a few cancel.
Whether that gamble pays off depends on how much players value convenience over ownership, and how many of those new day one titles end up being games people actually want to play.
