Xbox Game Pass March 2025 Update Brings New Perks, Cloud Features, and PC Upgrades
March is turning out to be a meaningful month for Xbox players-not because of a flashy game release, but due to a series of updates that tweak how Game Pass works across console, PC, and cloud.
Microsoft has introduced expanded perks for free-to-play (F2P) games, added smarter cloud gaming transitions, improved the PC Game Bar, and quietly dropped updates to Rewards, accessibility, and even console backgrounds.

Game Pass Members Get More From Free-to-Play Titles
For players subscribed to Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass, there's a bigger reason to log in to F2P games. Microsoft is rolling out new in-game perks that include unlockable characters, cosmetics, and in-game currency-all for simply linking your Xbox account.

Here's what's available right now:
- Heroes of the Storm: Unlock 30 heroes via a linked Battle.net account
- Naraka: Bladepoint: Unlock all heroes, get the Phoenix Princess Pack and Xbox-themed cosmetics
- Smite 2: Access five gods, an exclusive Hecate skin, emote, and title
- The Finals: Claim the Stryker Grid Set, weapon skins, XP boost, and 500 Multibucks
These perks join the existing benefits in games like League of Legends, Valorant, and Genshin Impact-and more are on the way. Starting April 2025, perks will be extended to games like Call of Duty: Warzone, Enlisted, Asphalt Legends Unite, and War Thunder.
Microsoft is also making it easier to find these perks. On PC, you can go to the Game Pass tab and click on "More Benefits," or explore participating games directly to see what's available.
Cloud Gaming Gets Smarter
One of the quieter but more useful additions this month is the ability to switch between titles within the same game franchise while streaming via Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta).
Right now, this only works with Assassin's Creed Shadows. If you're playing via Xbox.com/play, you can now launch other titles like Origins, Valhalla, Odyssey, and Mirage directly from inside the game, without needing to exit to the cloud home screen.
It works through the in-game Animus Hub, showing a pop-up with info about each title. If the game isn't available in the cloud or you don't own it, you'll get a heads-up. Microsoft says this is just the beginning-similar transitions are expected for other series-based games in the future.
"Stream Your Own Game" Gets More Titles
If you're a Game Pass Ultimate user, you can stream games you already own on supported devices-no downloads needed. Microsoft's "Stream Your Own Game" feature now supports over 50 games, and this month's list includes:

- Assassin's Creed Shadows
- Gotham Knights
- Party Animals
- Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League
- The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria
- The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
- Wobbly Life
Coming soon: Planet Coaster 2, Planet Zoo: Console Edition, Raft, Shredders, and The Thing: Remastered.
The appeal here is clear-stream high-end games even if your local device can't run them, as long as you own the digital copy.
Game Bar on PC Gets a New Look
For PC players, the Xbox Game Bar just got a refresh. The update includes a modernized interface, with redesigned widgets like:
- Home Bar
- Capture Widget
- Performance Widget
- Resource Monitor
- Widget Store

Controller navigation has also been improved for Compact Mode, especially useful on handheld Windows gaming devices. These updates make the Game Bar feel a bit more like a proper hub and less like a tacked-on overlay.
Smaller Changes Worth Noting
Xbox Adaptive Joystick Is Now Available
Microsoft's latest accessibility device, the Xbox Adaptive Joystick, is now available through the Microsoft Store. Designed in collaboration with the disability gaming community, it aims to support players with limited mobility by integrating into existing setups.
Rewards Just Got Easier to Use
Rewards points and account balances are now easier to find on the Xbox console. Players can now redeem points directly from the Microsoft Store menu-and yes, that includes the new $3 Candy Crush gift card that comes with 48 hours of unlimited lives.
New Dynamic Backgrounds on Console
If you like customizing your dashboard, several new dynamic backgrounds were added this month for Xbox Series X|S. New themes include:
- Microsoft 50th Anniversary
- Sea of Thieves (Megalodon and Sunset)
- Monster Hunter Wilds
- WWE 2K25
- Towerborne
- Split Fiction
Final Thoughts
This isn't a headline-making update, but it's the kind that reflects how Xbox is trying to evolve beyond just game drops. These features-especially F2P perks, seamless cloud switching, and controller-friendly overlays-suggest a platform trying to meet players where they are, whether that's on console, PC, or the cloud.
