Xiaomi Mi Reader Announced For Around Rs. 6,000: An Amazon Kindle Rival?
Following the teaser of the e-book reader a few days back, Xiaomi has unveiled the Mi Reader. This is the third e-book reader from the company. It resembles the Amazon Kindle and comes with an e-ink HD display. there is support for a wide range of file formats as well.
Xiaomi Mi Reader Price
Xiaomi Mi Reader is priced at 579 yuan (approx. Rs. 5,900) for the early-bird buyers. The device will go on crowdfunding starting from November 20. As soon as the crowdfunding goal is achieved, the price of the e-book reader will be increased to 599 yuan (approx. Rs. 6,100).
As of now, there is no word regarding the open sale of the Mi Reader. The company is yet to reveal when it will be launched in the global markets including India. What is known for now is that the e-book reader shipments will debut in China starting December 18.
Xiaomi Mi Reader Specifications
The Mi Reader arrives with a 6-inch HD e-ink display with up to 90% uniform brightness coverage, 24 brightness presets and a pixel density of 212 ppi. There is support for multiple file formats such as PPT, XLS, DOC, PDF, EPUD, TXT and a whole suite of compatible Microsoft Office and WPS content. The users import their library from the cloud and seamlessly switch between reading on their phone and Mi Reader.
The e-book reader from the company is powered by a 1800mAh battery and a USB Type-C port with 5V/1.5A charger bundled in the box. There is a dual-tone design with a dark rear panel and thick white bezels around the screen. The rear panel seems to have a grippy texture, which will provide a sturdy grip when the e-book reader is held.
On the hardware front, the Xiaomi Mi Reader is powered by a quad-core 1.8GHz Allwinner B300 processor paired with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage space. The device runs Android 8.1 topped with the custom skin.
An Amazon Kindle Rival?
Given that the Xiaomi Mi Reader is quite reminiscent to that of the Amazon Kindle, which is a popular e-book reader, we are yet to see how the device will compete against the Amazon offering. Moreover, it is yet to be known if it will be launched widely in the global markets to rival with Kindle.
