We already know that Amazon considers India as one of its major markets across the world. The company has expanded its operations to a great extent in India by introducing several new services.
While the company has already been successful in introducing services such as Amazon Prime Video and Fire TV dongle. It looks like the next aim is to tap into the smart home speaker market. Amazon is speculated to launch the Amazon Echo sometime by the end of this year in the country. A report that surfaced online in June tipped that the Amazon Echo and Alexa Voice Service will be introduced in India by the end of 2017.
A recent Android Central report claims that the Amazon Echo will be released in India sometime in October. The report tips that the Amazon Echo could be priced between Rs. 11,000 and Rs. 12,000 which is almost similar to its U.S. pricing of $179 (approx. Rs. 11.500). The smaller Echo Dot is claimed to be priced between Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 6,000, which is slightly expensive than its U.S. pricing.
The report adds that Amazon is working on adding the local language support for Alexa, its voice-based assistant in order to understand regional languages such as Hindi and Tamil. It is said that they will add support for more local languages in the coming months. Amazon is believed offer skills that are localized for the Indian market.
Amazon is claimed to release the Amazon Echo smart home speaker in October around Diwali. The retailer is known for the Great Indian Sale sometime around Diwali, the festival shopping season in the country. This time frame could be a great one to sell the Amazon Echo and Alexa in India.
