JioFiber Effect: Asianet Offering Free Set-Top Box, But There Is A Catch
Asianet, the internet service provider in Kerala has announced a new offer, where it is offering a free set-top box and 100 channels at Rs. 150 per month (excluding 18 percent GST). It is important to note that this offer will expire after December 31, 2019.
But there is a catch. Users will have to pay Rs. 999 initially as deposit charges. The whole amount will be refunded after three years. However, users can keep the set-top box, but then the deposit will not be refunded, reports TelecomTalk. According to the report, this offer is only for new customers and the entire Cable TV channel charges are to be paid to avail of this service.
Furthermore, this pack will include 83 FTA channels and 17 paid channels. It also ships Surya, Zee Keralam, Flowers, Surya Movies, Asianet Movies, Asianet Plus, Surya Music, and Surya Comedy. There is a paid channel list too, where it is offering Star Sports 1, Star Sports 2, Kochu TV, Star Sports First, NGC, NGC Wild, Star Sports 3, and News 18 Malayalam.
In other news, the company has launched an Android TV-based Smart Magic set-top box at Rs. 3,999. However, the set-top box is only available in select cities right now. For the unaware, Asianet is providing two services through its set-top box i.e cable TV and OTT content. Besides, it allows users to download more than 5000 apps and games for free.
Under the hood, it runs on Android TV 8.0 platform and comes pre-installed with apps like YouTube, Hotstar, and ZEE5. It seems that the company is all set counter JioFiber with this launch. Jio is also offering a free 4K set-top box with its broadband plan. On the other hand, Asianet is charging a huge deposit amount for its Magic Box. So, we believe that JioFiber's plans are better because the company is offering a free set-top box, unlimited data, and free access to Jio content.
