CES 2025 | Google TV Gets AI Boost with Gemini for Smarter Search and Hands-Free Interaction

At CES 2025, Google announced a significant upgrade to Google TV with the introduction of Gemini, its latest AI integration. This update aims to redefine how users interact with their TVs, offering conversational search capabilities, seamless smart home control, and personalized features powered by advanced AI models.

The rollout, expected later this year, will bring these features to select Google TV devices.

CES 2025 | Google TV Gets a Smart Boost with Gemini AI Integration

Smarter Searches with Natural Language

The Gemini integration will allow Google TV users to search for content and ask questions in a conversational way, removing the need for rigid commands like "Hey Google." For example, you can say, "Show me movies with Tom Hanks," or "What's the weather like this weekend?" The TV will respond with relevant results, such as movie listings or a weather forecast, making the experience more intuitive.

You can also use broader queries like, "What are some fun family activities?" or "Find a documentary about space exploration." Google TV will provide options from platforms like YouTube and other services, ensuring that you get both video content and useful contextual information.

Turning the TV into a Smart Home Hub

In addition to enhancing search capabilities, Google TV will now function as a central hub for smart home control. With the new update, users can manage devices like video doorbells, smart lights, and thermostats directly through the TV interface. Whether you're dimming the lights for movie night or checking who's at the door, these controls are integrated seamlessly into the TV experience.

Personalized Features for Everyday Use

The Gemini update introduces far-field microphones and proximity sensors to Google TV. The microphones allow users to issue voice commands without needing to hold a remote, while the proximity sensors detect when someone is near the TV. When a user approaches, the screen will display personalized widgets with information like weather updates or top news stories, providing a tailored experience based on the user's preferences.

AI in the Competitive TV Market

Google's move to integrate Gemini into its TV platform aligns with a broader trend of AI adoption in the television market. Companies like LG and Samsung are also enhancing their Smart TVs with AI, including Microsoft's Copilot assistant.
