Flipkart Launches Streaming Stick, To Take On Amazon Fire TV Stick

Flipkart has finally forayed into the streaming stick market. The company has launched a new stick under its brand 'MarQ by Flipkart'. The MarQ TurboStream's device is available on the platform at Rs. 3,499. The newly launched device is equipped with Android 9.0 OS, which supports Google Assistant for voice commands.

Besides, users can access apps through the Play Store. It comes with Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 at 60 frames per second and paired with 1GB RAM, 8GB of internal storage. Furthermore, it supports 2.4 GHz and 5GHz WiFi.

According to Flipkart, this new device supports all OTT apps such as Netflix, Hotstar, Voot, Alt Balaji, and Eros Now. However, the company is not providing access to Amazon Prime Video, but you can download the platform separately. On the audio front, it supports Dolby Audio, which likely enhances the sound output from the TV.

It is difficult to say how Flipkart stick will perform in the market, as there are already established players in the market like Airtel. The company has recently launched its Xstream stick, which supports Android 9.0 OS, powered by a 1.6 GHz processor, and Google Assistant. On the other hand, Dish SMRT stick works within its platform. On top of that, the user should be an existing Dish TV subscriber. The same goes for Tata Sky.

To recall, last month, Flipkart launched its original video content platform in India. The platform will work with Studio Next, Frames, and Sikhya Productions for original content. Besides, the Walmart- backed; e-commerce giant is working with Farah Khan for its first original series 'Backbenchers'.

OTT platforms are very popular in India, in fact, a joint study by ASSOCHAM and PricewaterhouseCoopers informed that the OTT video market in India, is expected to be among the top ten markets in the world, with a size of $823 million by the year 2022.
