Google Home Mini smart speaker to be launched in India in April
Google could bring its compact smart speaker to the Indian market in April this year.
Last week, there were reports suggesting that Google is in plans to launch the Wifi mesh router in India in April. Now, the same source has reported that the Google Home Mini smart speaker could also be launched in India in April along with the Google Wifi mesh router and a couple of other smart home devices.
According to a report by 91mobiles, Google Home Mini smart speaker, which was unveiled in San Francisco in October 2017 could reach the Indian market in the next month. Notably, Google Home Mini is a compact smart speaker, which makes use of Google Assistant. The device is made using a mesh or fabric material and features four LED lights on top to notify the users when it is in use.
The Google Home Mini can perform a number of tasks by taking voice commands as the input. Some of these tasks include getting weather updates, listening to the news, playing music, and the ability to control IoT or smart home devices.
Google has launched this compact smart speaker in three color variants - Chalk, Coral, and Charcoal. While there is no clue on the exact release date and pricing details of the smart speaker in India, it is believed to be priced around Rs. 3,000 from its US pricing.
One of the recent reports revealed references to the use of KaiOS in the Google Home app for Android. It appears like Google is in plans to add the KaiOS support to the device so that it can support phones such as Reliance JioPhone and Nokia 8110 4G, the two 4G enabled feature phones running this platform. If this turns out to be true, then the smart home devices such as Google Home, Chromecast, and Google Home Mini can work with the KaiOS based feature phones too.
While there is yet to be a confirmation from Google regarding the KaiOS support for the Google Home Mini smart speaker, it is clear that this support will be quite interesting as the smart home products will be compatible with the smart feature phones too.
