Google TV Streamer 4K Launched with Dolby Vision, Faster Chip to Rival Apple TV 4K
Google has introduced the Google TV Streamer 4K, replacing the awkwardly named "Google Chromecast with Google TV." This new device boasts several hardware upgrades, including a faster processor, improved networking capabilities, and smart home connectivity.
The Streamer features a 22% faster processor compared to its predecessor from 2020. Additionally, it now includes 4GB of RAM and 32GB of on-board storage, which is a significant improvement over the previous model.

Enhanced Connectivity and Ports
One notable change is the inclusion of a gigabit Ethernet port directly on the device, eliminating the need for an Ethernet adapter. The device also has a single USB-C port for power and optional data transfer. However, there is no additional USB port or microSD card slot.
The HDMI 2.1 port on the Streamer supports 4K HDR at 60fps output with HDR10(+), Dolby Vision, and HLG. For audio, it includes Dolby standards like Atmos. Despite expectations, there is no mention of AV1 codec support in the official specifications.
Redesigned Remote Control
The remote control has been slightly redesigned to include a "find my remote" feature. Users can locate their remote by pressing a button on the back of the Streamer or using a voice command through a Pixel phone or Google Assistant-enabled smart speaker. The remote's ergonomics have also been improved with a grippy texture on the back.
Wireless connectivity remains similar with Wi-Fi 5 (ac) at 2.4GHz and 5GHz, plus Bluetooth 5.1. However, the addition of Matter turns the Streamer into a Google Home hub and allows it to act as a Thread border router.
Smart Home Integration
A new customizable button on the remote can be programmed to open any app or switch inputs. The smart home functionality includes checking Nest Doorbell cameras and controlling devices like the new Nest Learning Thermostat.
Google has integrated its Gemini AI into the TV Streamer for content recommendations across various subscriptions such as YouTube, Netflix, Disney+, and Apple TV+. The AI also provides summaries and reviews of movies and shows or season-by-season breakdowns.
The Google TV Streamer 4K is available for pre-order at $100. The Porcelain version can be found on Amazon and Google's online store, while the Hazel colorway is exclusive to Google. Shipping will begin on September 24.
