LG Display has developed a 7,680x4,320 8K resolution 88-inch OLED display, the company announced.

It looks like LG is set for the upcoming CES 2018 event. The South Korean company has already announced that it will be unveiling several audio products especially a new speaker powered by Google Assistant in the ThinQ lineup.

However, LG will be unveiling some more products at the event. Besides, it seems that the company has been working on its display technology and pushing it to the next level. Well, just after teasing its latest 34-inch 5K monitor, LG has now unveiled a massive 88-inch OLED TV ahead of the official launch at CES 2018. Interestingly, the new system has an 8K display making it the first of its kind and with this, the company is promising better things for the consumers.

While LG has been in the game for a long time, the Korean consumer electronics giant has come up with the world's largest OLED TV resolution which is 7680×4320 pixels. Till date, the highest resolution available on TVs has been 4K or Ultra HD which most of the flagship models come with.

Having said that, we have few details about the TV right now but we are expecting more information to be shared during the launch event. From what we have heard so far, the display boasts 33 million pixels, four times that of 3,840x2,160 ultra high definition and 16 times more pixels than 1,920x1,080 full high definition. This new model is an upgrade over LG's existing 77-inch panel that comes with 4K resolution. Currently, the 4K resolution TV model is offered by brands like LG Electronics, Sony, and Panasonic but all these companies use disPlays manufactured by LG Display.

LG Display is now the sole large-size OLED display maker in the world. As for the competition, Samsung might not come into the picture in this category as the company has already shifted its focus from OLED TVs to QLED TVs. However, Samsung does have an 88-inch TV which features a 2,160p (4K) resolution, HDR, and built-in Wi-Fi. But again a TV with an 8K resolution is simply on another level.

Notably, from previous reports, we have heard that LG Display has made huge investments to ensure its supremacy in the market by ramping up OLED production capacity. Just recently, the company even got an approval from the South Korean trade ministry to set up a new organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panel production facility in China. The company has also stated that it will be making investments in large-sized OLED production in Guangzhou, China.

All in all, LG's announcement comes at a time when the company is making a bigger push into OLED panels and ramping up its operations. Meanwhile, the company has also suggested that it will also be announcing three new flagship monitors with interesting features as well.
