What Is True RGB
Most TVs use white LEDs with colour filters. Sony's True RGB approach uses independently driven red, green, and blue LEDs through RGB Backlight Master Drive Pro. Each colour is controlled separately, which Sony says results in the largest colour volume the company has ever achieved in a home TV. The practical benefit is more accurate colours, better performance in bright rooms, and consistent image quality from wider viewing angles.
BRAVIA 9II: The Flagship
The 9II is Sony's most advanced True RGB implementation. It adds specially developed LED controllers for tighter backlight control, combined with RGB Triluminos Max, Luminance Booster Pro, and Smooth Colour Gradation for purer colours and smoother tonal transitions at higher brightness levels. It also gets Immersive Black Screen Pro, a glare-free, low-reflection screen treatment for better shadow detail, and X-Wide Angle Pro for consistent colours from off-axis positions.
Both models are powered by Sony's Advanced AI Cognitive Processor XR, which analyses every scene in real time to adjust colour, contrast, and brightness.
Sound
The BRAVIA 9II has Acoustic Multi-Audio+ with Sound Positioning Tweeters and Up-Firing Beam Tweeters that position audio to match on-screen action. Both models also include 3D Surround Upscaling and Voice Zoom 3 for AI-powered dialogue clarity.
Software and Formats
Both TVs support Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and IMAX Enhanced. Studio Calibrated modes are available for Netflix, Prime Video, and Sony Pictures Core. Google TV handles the interface, and Gemini integration is coming via an over-the-air update. Sony Pictures Core is built in, with IMAX Enhanced content through Pure Stream at near 4K UHD Blu-ray quality and 10 movie credits valid for 24 months.
Design
Both TVs come with an Immersive Frame and a Mirage Stand with concealed cable management. The remote charges via USB-C, has backlit buttons, and includes a Find My Remote feature.
